i simply chose to list it because it's a completely different way to play the guitar i don't consider it a completely different instrument, it's just a different odd style for the guitar and i decided to list it since it is something i can do. also speaking of bowed guitar does anyone have some tabs for the bowed guitar riffs yo la tengo does unfortunately i really can't find them

DreamTheater 07-21-2010 12:59 AM

I play Vibes and Marimba, also clarinet.... I would like to learn how to play drums (as in drumset) but doubt thats gonna end up happening.

OneThirdPassion 07-22-2010 10:26 PM

I play the cello like an amatuer. :) I've only taken it for one year and a half at school. I can't play anythign that involves a ton of shifting.
I want to learn how to play a keyboard. I have one, but I suck at teaching myself instruments.

infantrysgirl18 07-25-2010 12:53 PM

i play piano and have for ten years. i compose my own stuff.
i taught myself how to play guitar (but i dont play too often)
i had a very good friend teach me the basics of playing the drums (acoustic)
i had another good friend teach me a little on how to play the violin (although i really want to learn how to play cello....just dont have enough $$$ to do so right now haha)
and i sing and have been all my life (because i believe the voice is an instrument)

Dr.Seussicide 07-30-2010 11:17 PM

I really do wish I could play the violin, more than any other instrument. It's so beautiful and perfect in every way. Maybe I should start lessons some day.. if only just to start to see how it'll turn out.. Maybe someday.

Palatable Vera 07-31-2010 05:44 PM

I can play piano pretty decently, I think. I can play the harmonica too, which isn't that great of an accomplishment, but it's fun to do sometimes.

That's about it. Musically, I'm not too gifted, but I like to dream. =/

jsla2005 12-11-2010 03:00 AM

I play mostly the tenor saxophone, but have been enticed by a lot of high quality, Chinese instruments on-sale. I am about to order my first soprano saxophone, and am considering a clarinet. Flute is also a possibility.

ThePhanastasio 12-11-2010 09:58 AM

I play guitar (poorly)
Drums (passably)
French horn (pretty well)

I'd like to play:
Theremin
Keyboard / piano
Bass
Ukulele
Banjo

And fiddle.

SATCHMO 12-11-2010 11:45 AM

I mostly stick to guitar and Piano based instruments, which I'm not very good at at all, but I definitely enjoy myself when I sit down at them. I make it a point to at least try to learn to play just about everything that I get my hands on. I play a handful of instruments poorly, but there are many that I would love to play much better than I do. I would really like to learn to play pedal steel guitar. I've heard nothing but how hard it is to play, but it's such a beautiful instrument.

blackdream123 12-11-2010 04:30 PM

I used to play guitar...
but i just bought drum's , i'm not good at it but , will learn with practicing :P...
It's amazing :D

Stone Birds 12-11-2010 04:33 PM

(i'm not joking)

Davidphonic 12-20-2010 08:32 AM

wish I'd learned the guitar...never too late I suppose!

BloodFoxTK 12-20-2010 05:12 PM

guitar and occasionally bass.

Phantom Limb 12-20-2010 10:55 PM

Everybody "plays" guitar. It's never too late to learn.

[Royal Tenenbaum] 12-21-2010 02:13 AM

I play guitar and bass :D and I sing.

imaduck13 12-22-2010 09:25 AM

DRUMS! and a little keyboard just for producing.

Hook 12-22-2010 03:21 PM

I play guitar. Just started about 3.5 months ago.

Kinda Blue 12-28-2010 07:02 AM

I wish I could play the bass. It's such a god damn sexy instrument.

Dotoar 12-28-2010 07:58 PM

All of the above, plus flute. :band:

TheFolkslave 12-28-2010 08:07 PM

I play bass in a post-rock band. Other than that I haven't had the time to get myself to play any other instruments that much (atleast not enough so I could say I can play them properly). I'm getting into ukulele now and I want to learn to play guitar properly.

flewis 12-28-2010 08:59 PM

Guitar, Bass, Dobro, Mandolin, Banjo, Drums,

Would love to learn piano more in depth

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 12-31-2010 09:44 AM

Your skill or the keyboard?

edit: Just realized it actually sucks. According to the poll.

I'd say the keyboard which is an amazing piece of ignorance from whoever started this poll. Wouldn't call my skills with it particularly bad, or good. Guess they're serviceable to the type of music I write.

Jónsi 01-01-2011 07:42 PM

[Bragging]
I play... *Takes deep breath* electric bass, upright bass, cello, violin, bowed guitar, recorder aaaaaand a little six string guitar.

KsoIwouldn'thaveneededtotakeabreathbeforethatstfu.
[/Bragging]

I'm a proud multi-instrumentalist. :D Even though I haven't played violin in a while, play very little guitar, can barely read and have only played electric bass about a year, I do play bass and bowed guitar an AWFUL lot. Like, hours on end. However, my skill on all the instruments are average.

I really wanna get into woodwinds though. :\ I can get a similar sound to a tuba with bowed electric bass, but that's too hard to control. v_v

Bushidosniper 01-03-2011 02:52 PM

I know how to play guitar,..it isn't all its choked up to be.
But i'd REALLY like to learn how to play a piano...

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-05-2011 11:05 AM

Personally, I've never had a will to be a multi-instrumentalist. There are so many ways you can play a singular instrument, it's difficult for me to imagine wanting to pick different things up.

Albeit, a large portion of the musicians I adore are multi-instrumentalists, and I respect it deeply.

I don't know, as a player, I guess I just like the blatant power in keyed instruments. Out of an 88 keyed instrument you get an amazing range of tones that very few instruments can top. Plus, I like the simple no friction approach of "press the key, get the note".

Geetarguy 01-05-2011 02:26 PM

i play drums, guitar, sing, bass, violin, mandolin, piano, harmonica.. anything I can get my hands on. Next is Banjo, or Saxophone. I need to learn a real wind instrument soon, so probably sax first.

Sarge 01-06-2011 11:38 AM

Guitar, drums, keyboard/piano, bass.. not really intending on learning anything else.

balloon 01-09-2011 11:51 AM

I play the piano, and almost every brass instrument imaginable. My favourite is trombone though :)

Trombone is awesome. Especially the bass/contrabass trombone. I don't know, bassier trombones just have such a deep and sorrowful tone to them. Sounds like death.

KeithT 01-21-2011 08:11 PM

Problematique 01-23-2011 05:01 AM

I play the guitar for almost 2 years.

rocksann 01-24-2011 08:59 AM

I bought myself a ukulele, I really wanted to learn to play. Its been 2 years and I don't think I could tel you much more than the chords... I have this horrible anxiety about learning instruments, becuase you can hear mistakes jarringly, there is rarely any bs-ing it... I know I need to get over it. Maybe I will start again tonight...
_ I also live with 2 talented musicians who would want to jam if they ever heard me practicing... which would be fun for most but for me, it makes me too nervous... :(

BobLobLaw 02-04-2011 07:38 PM

I play saxophone. Alto, to be exact.

I don't play Jazz though. I'm not good at improvising and all that stuff.

morgos 02-05-2011 09:14 PM

I play drums. I took lessons for 3 or 4 years when I was younger, and then kind of lost interest for a couple years, not really practicing seriously and only playing in very informal jam sessions with friends. I started practicing seriously again just earlier this month, and it does feel good!

At some point I would like to learn to play flute, or maybe saxophone. I also think it would be fun to mess around with a contrabass sarrusophone, but I doubt I'll ever have the opportunity.

if you haven't heard Toad by Cream, that song has some drums that will keep you inspired.

Ginger Baker is the man.
