Played guitar for about 9 and a half years now, and I've been playing keyboard on and off for about three and a half. Never really bothered trying very hard with the latter so I still suck. Self-taught on both accounts.

morgos 02-13-2011 02:37 PM

In addition to drums, I also play synthesizer, although not with the intention of actually practicing or playing in a band or anything. I just sit down, mess around with the thing, and create new sounds - sometimes for hours. Check out this baby:

My dad bought it off a guy for 50 bucks ages ago. These synthesizers sell for thousands now.

Howard the Duck 02-15-2011 02:38 AM

i can play the keyboards but would like to own a vintage Mellotron, tq

also a Celeste/Celesta

Introvox 02-15-2011 11:38 AM

Keyboards suck?

Rick Wakeman's comin for you....and he's drunk as hell.

I want to play Triangle in an orchestra

- count out 185 bars of rests
- go "ding"
- get paid

ThePhanastasio 02-15-2011 11:42 AM

I would do just about anything to get one of these:

It's a hang. It has to be one of the coolest instruments I've ever seen in my life, but they're apparently super difficult to get.

Introvox 02-15-2011 11:48 AM

^^Holy Hell!

That is freakin beyond awesome!!!!!

RJMcDonnell 02-15-2011 02:33 PM

I played guitar in a couple of bands when I was in school. Then my left wrist got crushed in an accident and I couldn't grip the neck more than 15 minutes for over ten years. About three years ago a friend showed me a guitar that was incredibly easy to fret. It took a while to get back in shape, but I now play a dozen songs at my book signings. It feels great to be back in action.

That's a great story buddy.

Glad to hear you're back at it...I'd like to ask you if you've ever tried or looked at The Chapman Stick.

It might be right up your alley....if you haven't look it up on youtube.

Very comfortable playing position, easy on the wrists.

Cheers!

RJMcDonnell 02-19-2011 08:29 AM

Great tip on The Stick, Introvox. I never saw anything like it. I must admit, the "old dog, new trick" adage did pop into my mind while I was checking it out. But, I believe musicians are risk takers by nature, and I'm no exception. A trip to my favorite music store will be happening soon.

I know a guy that made one out of a propane tank. If you search "home made hang drum" on YouTube you can find a video of a guy who made his own, as well. That's probably my next project.

And I play drums, and various odds and ends that you can beat, smack, or bash with sticks.

GeddyBass2112 02-19-2011 02:15 PM

Don't know whether I mentioned it, but I play(ed) drums and want to relearn them someday. I WAS pretty decent....

Groovey768 02-25-2011 08:27 PM

I play trumpet and clarinet, I used to play guitar when I was younger, but then I stopped because EVERYONE played it because it made them feel cool or something, so I didn't want to come off as that.

Stone Birds 02-25-2011 09:10 PM

i wish i could play wind instruments

This is really cool, I have seen these before. I used to play steel drum for a couple years, and it seems as if they made the drums convex. That or they flipped them upside down and banged divots the other way.

Simple enough to make a new instrument, but brilliant enough to kick yourself for not thinking of it hahaha.

Anyways they make beautiful music!!

jerryalanjacobs 03-07-2011 01:16 PM

Guitar, Piano, Vocals.

Buzzov*en 03-07-2011 02:50 PM

I play guitar, drums, and bass.

in HS band i play percussion including triangle, cymbals, chimes, xylophone, glockenspiel, tambourine, etc... and counting measures is actually harder then you may think espeically if it's in an odd time signature, and i actually read the music it becomes somewhat complex. also if you want to play triangle in an orchestra they prefer versatile percussionists a percussionist who can and is willing to play many different percussion instruments.

I WANT THIS SO BAD!!!! FOR SO LONG!!!! BUT THEY COST SO MUCH MONEY!!!! I PRETTY MUCH WANNA CRY!!!!!!

DreamingOfAlbion 03-10-2011 05:19 PM

I play guitar. I'm pretty horrible at it though. I would like to learn bass. My Dad bought a bass like 10 years ago and never learned to play it and it was just gathering dust in the basement so I now have it in my room as decoration. And the amp as a table. I did learn to play a bit of Seven Nation Army on it once. But besides that, I'd also like to learn piano and possibly drums. I dunno if I have the coordination required for drums though.

Dear sweet god I want one of these. I played one at a Long and McQuade not too long ago, and I'll be damned if it was't one of the nicest sounding guitars I've ever played. The highs were just gorgeous.

Howard the Duck 03-11-2011 10:34 PM

I really would like to play a theremin - the original waving your hands around two antennaes thing, not the shitty sliding a bar with notes on the board thingie

Raust 03-13-2011 11:33 AM

Yeah uh I play me some bass.

GeddyBass2112 03-15-2011 04:03 PM

^I love you Raust! That is one good-looking bass! <3

Mr November 03-18-2011 10:02 PM

I play trombone at a highschool level.
I aslo own a guitar and have been trying to teach myself to play it with not much success...

I've got all kinds of instruments (keyboard, harmonica, drumsticks(no actual drums), trombone, acoustic guitar). I'm not good enough at any of them that I would advertise though

Dr_Rez 03-19-2011 11:02 PM

Cool bass Raust. That exact color and model are my absolute favorite sounding and playing bass. Well perhaps a maple board but no biggie.

alicedee07 03-24-2011 03:14 PM

I speak 5 languages but bass is my main language.

Howard the Duck 03-24-2011 08:34 PM

^^meaning it's a 5-string?

GeddyBass2112 03-27-2011 09:01 AM

i would like a Hammond B3 with the Leslie speakers

i mean the original Leslie with the speaker rotating on a spindle inside there, and not digital phasing effects

ediebutt 04-03-2011 04:23 PM

I play alto sax, piano, and bassoon XD band nerd in the house!!

Hagar 04-23-2011 12:12 AM

I picked up a Ehru last year - a Chinese Violin -- not as easy as I thought it would be to make a decent sound - in fact - I started to get too many complaints... :(

All three members of Rush are now terminally ill and will die within 48 hours.

Astronomer 04-24-2011 07:57 PM

Is violin hard to learn? I'm not learning it, nor do I plan to, but the singer of my band is thinking of taking lessons. Thoughts?

Burning Down 04-24-2011 08:05 PM

If they're used to playing a fretted instrument like the guitar or something, it might take a bit of time to remember where to place the fingers. Fret tape or a little masking tape always helps. Using a bow is quite a change too.

Vegangelica would be better able to answer your question though, as she plays violin :)

She's actually never played any fretted instruments before, the only instrument she plays is piano :/ So not sure how that'll work out... But thanks for the response!
