idk the name and i can't seem to find it, but its a chrome plated/bladed guitar.

A Veleno, maybe? Keith Levene of PiL produced his ultra-sustained sound playing a Veleno. Here's a video about one of the first guitars made by John Veleno for Marc Bolan.

My Strat. Wildwood '10' Fender 57 Re-issue. Wildwood is a premier Fender dealer in Colorado who can get them to build small runs to their specs. This is a 57 all the way except instead of the period correct 7.5" fret radius it's a more modern 10". Upgrades I've made are putting in a 12 year old set of Suhr V60LP pickups (best strat pups ever IMO) and a Callaham bridge assembly with the Gilmour shorter length trem arm. The stock length gets in the way for me. And the bridge block has a nylon insert so the arm doesn't wiggle at all.

Super lightweight and resonant one piece ash body. She's a sweet ride!

I also got a white fender reissue of the 1956 stratocaster, made in 2012. I love it :)

Another thing which is not "correct" on my guitar, and probably not on yours, is the 5-step pickup selector switch which I believe didn't exist back then. Of course I'm happy to have it anyways.

The guitar I've played most lately is a Godin Acousticaster that I bought used (at a very reasonable price) and got fixed up. It sounds friggin amazing. I love the telecaster shape and it's just really comfy and easy to play as well. It's the perfect electro-acoustic .. I took it to a gig with the band last december and it was just the best gig I ever played. I've never been that happy with a guitar on stage. Now I just want their nylon version as well ("multiac") which I've seen Al Di Meola (I'm a fan) plays.

Here's a picture so you can see what it looks like (not of mine though).

Mister Mushroom 02-20-2015 12:28 PM

That's a toughie.

I'm really far too indecisive to say a definite favorite. Even out of the ones I own my favorites switch every now and then.

Generally I prefer anything twangy or jangly, like Fenders and Gretschs. I'm also a fan of Teiscos.

Out of the guitars I own, my favorite feel-wise and tone-wise (for Surf and anything Fuzzy) is my Teisco ET-210n

I'd post a pic but not quite there yet, sadly.

My Tele has been giving me some strange grief lately. I've snapped two A strings on the saddle (both during gigs) and an E once, with less than a few week old strings, always in the same spot. Did some research and apparently every once in a while during manufacturing something will slip and create a small bur on the saddle, which will quite literally cut your string like a knife over time, especially with frequent palm muting. Took it into the local shop and had it looked at, he plopped it down on his bench, filed down the saddle a bit, and lubed it with graphite.

Gig tonight, two day old strings (although thoroughly stretched and warmed up), the moment of truth, Lord have mercy on my two most important strings.

I had a problem like that with my Schecter. I was using it for gigs, and it was my ONLY guitar at the time, so when the E popped, I'd have to just play through. I'm pretty fast at restringing though, so I'd be ready with a short break after the tune was over. It kept happening until I got fed up and did some filing. Smooth sailing after that, so you should be all good.

EPOCH6 02-20-2015 12:58 PM

Yeah first time it happened a fella from the band before us noticed, quickly ran over to his gear and passed me his guitar to finish the set, nice dude. We won't be forgetting a spare guitar this time in case the problem returns.

Yup. Missed that detail. 5 way instead of the stock 3 way. Gotta have those two quack positions!

That Godin is gorgeous.

It's just great in every way .. I've been keeping an eye on the used market in Norway and they do show up now and then at very reasonable prices. If they all play and sound like the one I have, I'd recommend them to any guitarist. :)

edit :

By the way, I also got an original case for my fender and every time I open it, I get a solid whiff of that finish (nitro I guess?). That strat even smells heavenly!

Guybrush 02-20-2015 06:00 PM

By the way, just bought a new pedal today and it's the smallest one I ever seen. It's like a chubby fridge magnet. It's a Hotone Grass Overdrive pedal.

As I've been an acoustic player for most of my life, I don't have extensive experience in overdrive pedals, but it sounds pretty darn good to me and it's also got true bypass .. very reasonably priced as well. It's part of a series so I was thinking of getting some more of these. After all, think of how small a pedal board you can get away with when you have these little guys :p:

Strangely enough my Tele has been doing the same thing, so I took it to my guitar tech and from what he told me he'll be doing the same thing, as well as filing down the fret edges which are a little sharp.

EPOCH6 02-21-2015 01:18 PM

Well, played a gig with it last night and it seems that the problem has been solved, made it through without a hitch, and I played hard.

While I am a bit peeved at Fender for allowing issues like this to slip through the cracks, especially with their ****ing American Standards, which are touted as immaculately built flagship models, I think it would be most reasonable to look at it for what it is, a minor slip-up, one that would be very difficult for quality control to spot without playing the thing for a week in the factory. I'm having a hard time really blaming Fender for it, it's just the nature of having these things mass manufactured I guess, sometimes things slip, sometimes they're too hard to spot, sometimes they escape the factory. It certainly says nothing about the American Standards (Teles and Strats alike) in terms of design quality, hardware, and sound. I still love everything about the guitar and would still recommend it to every living human on the planet.

Plankton 02-26-2015 10:44 AM

Right now, my favorite is my Takamine Ukulele. I've been taking it to our singers house lately, giving her some lessons and all, and just from screwing around with two finger tandem picking (simultaneously using my index and middle fingers) I stumbled across The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again organ intro/solo.

It's a fantastic little piece of noise making.

Chula Vista 02-26-2015 10:47 AM

^^^^^

You should record it and post a link.

My super fun travel guitar. Full scale neck and sounds really good plugged in.

I had the honor of seeing Paco play with DiMeola and McLaughlin at the Opera House in Boston eons ago. He brought the house down.

I would have loved to see him play live, especially in his youth.

i have been thinking about picking one of these guitars up and custom painting it.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HPNB5T...I1Y7TGI0NASGS7

i've always loved the Iceman and have wanted one for years.

any ideas for what i could paint the body?

post a pic or two if you guy's have ideas.

jaimiehayes 04-06-2015 10:27 AM

mine has to be the Gibson ES-339 semi-hollow guitar. I love most semi-hollow guitars though.

Steyn 04-17-2015 07:55 AM

I love my Ibanez RG. I'm looking at getting a PRS 24 Custom next...

Jonts 04-17-2015 09:34 AM

I consider myself a drummer nowadays but put in a couple of decades playing guitar. Having had various fenders, an Ibanez, some epiphones and a couple of cheap LP copies I think my favourite has been the Epiphone 335 style Dot in vintage sunburst purely for looks. If I could've given that guitar the sounds of the Mexican tele but considerably louder I had I would've been a happy boy.

Good to see you all like Tele's here, I did love to record with mine but as a 6' 2" guy it always felt too small for me even though it was really heavy. In fact so heavy it confused the sales guys, they were convinced it had a Mexican fender employee's severed hand buried inside it somewhere as they handed it over.

That is odd, I've never felt a relatively heavy Telecaster. My American Standard almost seems weightless compared to something like a Les Paul Custom (which is absurdly heavy).

I owned this for a while and it was just under 10 pounds.

If the wood is still "wet" when it's sealed it can end up weighing a lot.

The overwhelming majority of these were acquired after the age of 45 and once I'd busted my ass enough to have some disposable cash. I bought most of them used and then would re-sell for about the same price to try another flavor.

EPOCH6 04-17-2015 02:07 PM

Thinkin' I might start doing that, seems like a pretty reasonable way to sample as many as possible. Was re-selling usually pretty difficult? Did you just use Craigslist?

Ebay or join the forums of the builders. In the cases of the guys that have long lead times you end up making a nice profit.

I ordered a custom Thorn Artisan and it took 18 months to build. Got it and realized it was all bling and no sing and then sold it a few weeks later for a $600 profit. Same with one of the Briggs.
