Actually you can, you just have to have them pre-set in one of your patch banks. Reqires some setup time before hand (which you should have already done to get the perfect sound), but they work great.

Thanks for backing up my last point mate!

I think we can see that a good solution would be to mix the two, the multi pedal for big jobs and generic sounds and the smaller pedals to fine tune your sound...

I would have to agree with you there. I think its hard to get those "legendary" sounds from a multi-effects pedal. Sometimes only a stomp box will do. But if you turn alot of effects on and off at once, a multi-pedal is the only way to go.

here here! We have it licked! And you need a decent amp, but that can wait for another day eh?!

As far as multis go Line 6's POD is by far the cream of the crop., And yeah if you are going to use a multi there is a lot more pre-planning and fine tuning involved, but that's what makes it so much fun!

im in four different bands and 2 side projects. the h2o is amazing. we run vocals though it sometimes through a korg vocoder and a 57 and it sounds like mogwai. really fun.

After going to Sam Ash, my friend decided to get the Zoom GFX-3. We took it back home and as it turns out, its an awesome pedal. Very easy to use (once you learn), sounds awesome, and it appears to be very durable. More than worth the price! This is the second Zoom pedal I have used or had experiance with, and so far I'm very happy with their products.
