Like, good for you for getting sober however you had to do it but there's no way finding god was honest and not just a desperation move you'll pathetically cling to. I mean there's no way in hell I will ever buy that JW-****ing-B legitimately believes in any kind of higher power.

I've seen more surprising turnarounds. It's usually conflating the power of being a part of a social network that religion tends to provide with their belief in god as the solution to their problems.

But if you get over that hump of addiction then aren't you going to need to keep that social network to maintain your sobriety? I don't see JWB as being particularly able to build a new, "secular" social network of actual friends and whatnot so won't he be stuck? I imagine the comedown from realizing your new god boy friends are goofballs and then having nobody to cling to to keep you away from becoming a hole-in-the-ground-you-pour-booze-into will just make you hit the sauce harder.
