But if you get over that hump of addiction then aren't you going to need to keep that social network to maintain your sobriety? I don't see JWB as being particularly able to build a new, "secular" social network of actual friends and whatnot so won't he be stuck? I imagine the comedown from realizing your new god boy friends are goofballs and then having nobody to cling to to keep you away from becoming a hole-in-the-ground-you-pour-booze-into will just make you hit the sauce harder.

It definitely doesn't work like that based on my experiences with alcoholics and addicts. I think that for the majority of people, addiction is a lifelong struggle.

That's sad. Substance abuse is terrible but that **** is even worse.

Quote on alcohol.

"It is a very, very patient drug. It will always be there waiting for you to pick it up one more time." - Mercedes McCambridge (the voice of the devil in Exorcist)

I set 100 days as my initial goal. Got there and was feeling pretty good about it. Even went a bit public for the first time.

Day 101 was a massive struggle to avoid the f*cking dude sitting outside scratching at my door at night.

Stopped counting days after that.

Yeah I know but I meant the initial hump of quitting and withdrawal and getting yourself back on some kind of even keel.

Well then maybe we shouldn't scratch new JWB alts off of the list of possibilities.

The Batlord 04-26-2019 11:49 AM

I was assuming we're just trying to antagonize him into doing that.
