Oh there's a lot of people here who say stuff like "Syd Barrett was a musical genius, Floyd went to crap after he left."

And of course they're the wrongest people on the planet.

Yeah, that's sort of ridiculous considering he only played on two albums. The band accomplished so much more after he left. I find it amusing when people make statements like that.

Well the second Floyd album he appeared on, Saucerful, it was only for 3 songs, only one of which he sang and wrote.

I like Barrett, but I don't think he's this musical genius people make him out to be, he just had some inspired ideas because he did a sh*tload of acid.

But a lot of people did acid back then, and a lot of them made much better music than Barrett did, plain and simple. I think his music is just full of more weirdness than any actual ideas. LSD was his creative spark, and I think he depended on it a great deal, but it also meant he couldn't play worth the sh*t 95% of the time whenever he did a live show. Not what I'd define as a genius.

I don't think Syd Barrett was a musical genius, I just prefer his stuff over some of the dreary snoozefests put out by Gilmour or Waters.
