I dont agree with The Doors being overrated, they released some excellent stuff and i dont think they are particularly 'rated' enough on here as it is

Where to begin?

The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, The Strokes....

edit:.....and how could I forget the Doors and Pink Floyd.

These acts had great songs in a few cases but are so overrated it isn't even funny.

The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, and Pink Floyd had more than a few good songs care to elaborate

So wrong. They've written quite a few ballads but a great part of their discography is heavy metal/hardcore, City of Evil being a glaring example.

I've never really been hugely into the Stones - I dunno, its probably a taste thing, but I just can't find the appeal in the music, the lyrical themes, the mythology of the band - i guessed i just missed the whole era when they were poular, too, being way too young or not even born during what was considered their "heyday"...

A large amount of the appeal of the Stones is that they were so raw. Not so much their very first work (which I consider atrocious), but thereafter the Stones would take a song in its supreme essence and draw out the emotional response of the listener. I won't pretend Mick Jagger is as fantastic a vocalist as people pretend, but he had quite a gift for bringing iconoclastic themes into his work.

On a completely cerebral level, I respect them for what they did in terms of the culture of rock music, and their acheivements as a band have been no less than completely HUGE... their legacy is undeniable...

But my heart nor my head can really connect with the music and feel something...

That being said I wouldn't even go as far as to say they are overrated - because they deserve the kudos they've received throughout their career... and they've quite obviously become very prosperous and well regarded for what they've done.
I just can't get into them.

just because you don't like them and can't connect doesn't make them overrated.

the beatles are one of the most influential rock groups. ever. i don't care what you like, if it was rock and make after 1970, it was influenced by the beatles.

the stones are just great rock music, i mean i don't like everything they have done, but they were also very influential not to mention great music.

the doors are just straight fantastic.this thread isn't a "what music i don't like" thread, there is a difference. i have respect for a lot of music that i don't personally like. the doors, the beatles, and the stones are, at the very least, respect worthy.

i don't have an argument for the strokes and the white stripes because they are not my kind of music and i never rea''y got into them. i think you said this stuff to be "controversial" and "different" but honestly, to me, it just comes off as annoying.
