Default northern soul or ska

hello every body we are la large band and i joined a a music site the other day and i put our sound down as alternative and i got an email off them because i had asked a question something to do with promotion and the guy sent me an email and said well it would help if you labelled your self in the right genre.. so i emailed him back and asked which one they thought and they havent answered back so i thought i would ask some ska fans because some of our songs contain a lot of brass because i love that sound so if any body would check us out i would be grateful i think our sound is northern soul / ska but that does not really devine you this is the first time i treid to ask a foram like this so i really would be interested in what people here think... i have joined this site with the hope of promoting the ottband and any advise about how or what i should be doing i would also be thankful i have been logging on here a quite few times and and looking around different posts reading what people are saying but im finding it a bit of a grey area about what i should be doing thanks tony

Use commas to begin with . Ska and Northern Soul share a few musical elements but do sound very distinct from one or another. If you don't know what genre you are, how are we to know? I have replied to a couple of your posts and you seem a nice guy but your posts are naive and you don't seem to know much about music, despite being in a band (don't take it personally). Promotion of a band and posting here solely for that purpose is being phased out here over the next few days. So I would suggest that you post around the forums or post me a legitimate link to your music and I will give my opinion out of courtesy.

ps
i have treid posting you my url for my space on here but system will not let me as i have not done 15 posts yet , so if i could ask you to put ottband myspace into goolge it comes up staright away but you must leave a space between ottband and myspace

With the songs i'm listening to here i really don't hear a Northern Soul influence at all, i can a ska/reggae feel but none of the tracks have enough of a stripped down, upbeat feel for them to be like Nothern Soul, or the voice really.
I'm thinking it sounds quite a bit like The Jam, i think you could maybe get away with a Ska/Mod label.
