First of all, Iron Maiden is brought up constantly on Musicbanter, they're definitely one of the most important metal bands that I can think of.
Secondly, I agree with nonsubmissivewife. I think what she meant was that we used to have hundreds of votes for nominations. The last one ended with, I think, less than 20. And she's not trying to be a bitch to you, xEMGx. She's saying the users that have been here for a long time haven't been voting or saying too much in here. Though a lot of them have already said their piece for Iron Maiden so far. I don't listen to that much metal and the list of influences may not be so great but they are essential in the history of the genre. And they had an unbelievable run of records, producing more quality albums than most bands could ever dream of. I used to listen to Number of the Beast at least weekly. Iron Maiden gets a yes from me. |

I can't bring myself to vote yes for these guys... they really do not define the kind of metal i truly enjoy, and while they may be totally someone elses cup of tea, that's not enough for my yes vote... sorry!

And what the hell would you have it be? Just because a band is influential doesn't qualify it for the Hall of Fame. It may be a factor, but it's more a major player when what it influenced is more popular in the community (ie, metal). Don't take this vote the wrong way - it just shows that the community isn't really into this type of music, it means no disrespect to their legacy.

Well it kind of ties in with what someone else mentioned. It just so happens that the people who don't like the band up for nomination voted, it can be said about past nominees too. But can 30 people speak for thousands? I just realized it's basically what Music Banter thinks of the band. So yeah, I guess you are right, it is a popularity contest. I thought that this would be based on how important the band is considered to be and the actual quality of their music. Whatever.

Well it has to be a yes from me. Let's have some points why.
They are still going after 30 years making music with a line up that's been there since 1983. They consistently put on great live shows and always sell out and we are not talking about smaller and smaller venues with each tour. They were arguably the first band to define fan merchandise and set the template for many metal bands to follow. Regarded as one of the most friendly down to earth bunch of people you would ever wish to meet despite their popularity. Lead singer Bruce is also an Olympic standard fencer. He is a qualified airline pilot and is also an author, DJ and screenwriter- just in case people think lead singers in metal are thick as fuk. They have influenced every metal band from Metallica to Slayer and many in between. I wouldn't be talking about music if it wasn't for them. Simple really.
