Of course people are going to be interested - it's gossip. I know everyone loves good gossip, but:

Actually, I don't mind transparency, but I don't think I'd want to report in a thread to the whole community every time I ban someone. Besides, when explaining why you ban someone, you'd also have to demonstrate how the banned member broke the rules. Often, the banned member's offending posts will be deleted and so reports like that could put the banned user in a worse light than he/she would otherwise be. Hence, perhaps there should be some level of discretion - not the keeping it a secret kind, but perhaps we shouldn't advertise the reasons why when people are banned.

But, if someone sends me a PM asking me why I banned someone, I'm happy to explain with quotations of the offending posts etc. It's only natural members of the community are curious, interested or even offended which is perfectly alright, so don't hesitate to send a PM.

Wow, wasn't expecting a solid response here. Thanks, well said. I will send you a PM if I am ever curious. Just seemed like having it on their profile would be pretty easy. You can already see your own infractions, I don't see anything bad coming from letting the rest of the MB members know why someone got the axe.

I actually don't think we have any way of making the explanations appear on their profile though. Like I said above, if you want to know just ask.

We could put it in their signature, but that's about it.
I wouldn't have a problem putting their ban expiration date in their sigs if it's someone who's actually an integrated member here and other members would like a reference. But I'm not going to put someone's rap sheet out in the open. The members themselves can decide whether to let people know or not.

Maybe MB should get a seperate website where you could type in the users name and then it would show why they got banned. Much like some of the judicial websites out there hahaha!

I like this idea. Something to think about. I can't see any regulars getting banned, I'd probably be voted most likely if there were such a vote though, so I am requesting that in the event of a ban, the expiration date please be posted in my sig.
