Moderation isn't a popularity contest, it's a capability contest, and who is better to select those who can do a job than those who already know what it entails? But I digress. I stand corrected about videos going unwatched, but I maintain that there's a line that can be crossed.
Personally, I think that these "Post a picture of an album/post a song" threads should be moved into Games and Polls, and then users can be free to spam videos as they please. After that, I'd like to see similar threads approved by moderators, just to keep down redundancy. It's a finicky line to walk between controlling users and protecting the integrity of the forum. |

For me I sometimes just post an ungarnished YouTube link when I feel like any text I might add is just gratuitous filler. I kind of have communication issues generally so I am sometimes at a loss for words and I don't feel inclined to force myself to post BS when I know that's what it is. Like if it's just a song I like and want to share it without feeling like I have to explain it then I just put it out there for whoever's interested.

I don't believe we were ever talking about one-off posts here, I believe we were talking about serial-video-posters whose only "contributions" are video posts with no additional content.

I think people are pretty good at spotting spammers but it would be tricky to make a black and white rule to hinder them without hindering the genuine contributors.

I do think that one of two things has to happen with these sorts of threads: 1) A rule is passed in each thread that commentary on your own or another person's post is required for each video/image one posts themselves or 2) These threads are moved to the Games and Polls forum. |
