EitS have The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place, a great album many so-so ones. The thing about EitS is that they're a pop band. They're the post-rock band that has saccharine-sweet melodies, very accessible harmonies, and those 9 minute songs just fly by so easily because of how structured and (sometimes) rigid they happen to be. It's a lot easier to latch onto. Admittedly once you step away from them, you find things that are a lot more textured, innovative and 'zesty' so to speak, but they're a very good starting point. They're The Beatles of Post-Rock; they might be overrated, but dwelling on that becomes a bit silly. Their music obviously serves its purpose, and every person I've ever met who's into post-rock cites EitS as their gateway drug to it. Perhaps their greatness is instead felt more in terms of influence than in actual sound... I can go either way. The album I mentioned earlier is still quite great, so they have some sort of achievement under their belt.

While the influence is undeniable, I don't really find Slint to be a post-rock band despite how many posts and articles I read saying that they are.

I suppose not, but they're the best band assosciated with the genre in my book.

Tbh I haven't succeeded in finding a band that sounds like Jakob - I guess they're just too awesome

It's about time I gave them their own thread... I'm surprised I haven't done so already.

Have any of you guys listened to Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson? They are an emoish post-rock band from the grim and frostbitten fjords of Norway.

These guys are my go to guys for post-rock. Still trying to pin a good definition on, a way to describe to friends, what post rock is.

The Universe!
Do
Make
Say
Think

are the tracks I'm most familiar with. I'm looking into more.

I love The Universe! Reminds me of a song of the Broken Social Scene (I can't remember right now which).

I saw This Will Destroy You tonight. They put on a good show, although the supporting acts were odd. They didn't say a word to the crowd. They came on, soundchecked, and started to play. I found it rather odd that they didn't say a word but then again, I was there for their music (which kicked ass). They played everything I wanted to hear.

I think it's a common thing for post-rock bands to not say anything during the gig since it's all about the music.

P.S Im envy since I want to see TWDY so bad now
