Real game of 2 halves though that LP as the final 4 songs I find pretty dull, just never been able to get into them. 'Takk' is pretty great, has a bit of a weak mid-section but the first 2 tracks were quite tough to follow. 'Med Sud....' I quite like, liked the new style with 'Gobbledi****', it's a mixed bag record but there's a lot to admire. Never bothered with 'Von', not heard much praise for it, always too many highly-regarded LPs to pick up.

Fabulous, unique band everyone should hear.

I agree that ( ) drags a bit but Untitled 8 is surely not dull? It's one of the most exciting climaxes to a piece I've heard in my life.

From ( ) I love tracks 1, 4 and 8. But Unititled 8 is for me the best.
Although I don't know all discography yet, I have a feeling this track is the best song of Sigur Rós

CanwllCorfe 02-22-2010 07:42 PM

The first track off of () is insanely emotional. I can't listen to it unless I'm already sad.

Takk is my favorite album from them as of yet. I'm looking forward to their new one since they say it's more in their older style.

I love this. This is actually what I think I want played at my funeral (as grim as that may seem).

Jared Leto said the same thing.. well actually "Sigur Rós Untitled #1 or anything by Aphex Twin"

Petula07 02-23-2010 09:31 AM

Today I had finally a time for another album - Takk...
I like it a lot because I love Sigur Rós, but my personal winner is still album ( )

Obi 02-23-2010 09:39 AM

( ) definitely has dull parts (around 5/6) but I still love it. When I'm feeling down I find I can listen to the whole thing without doing anything else. It's a very beautiful album.

Did you get Ágætis Byrjun yet? If you liked ( ) you'll love Ágætis Byrjun, their best album in my opinion.

I can't wait for their new album to be released :D hopefully it'll be as epic as Ágætis Byrjun and ( )

Not yet :( I have for now three albums.
But I will get it as soon as possible and than I will write my opinion.

MusicManRandy 02-24-2010 09:22 AM

what about the new single from Jónsi of Sigur Rós?

CanwllCorfe 02-24-2010 06:53 PM

I like it! :D Sounds really nice. Pretty weird hearing him sing in English.. and dressed like a bird. But eccentricity is always good

Petula07 02-25-2010 04:33 AM

He is funny guy :) Often I have a feeling he was born on some another planet :D
Good song. It seems I prefer him with Sigur Rós but let's wait to hear all album.

Petula07 02-25-2010 04:51 PM

As I promised to say... Finally I got Ágætis byrjun and it is really great, for sure better than Takk for me.

My order is now...

1. ( )
2. Ágætis byrjun
3. Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust
4. Takk...

Wow, this is amazing.

swoonmusic 02-26-2010 12:18 PM

Sigur Ros is pretty amazing, i saw them live a few years ago and it was one of the best things ever, I really look forward to their new album dropping.

medicine 03-02-2010 07:05 AM

I can't believe that I've still only heard the Recycle album! I have I believe 3 others but never got around to listening. Thats a shame

Robo 03-14-2010 03:12 PM

sigur ros is hands down amazing

kelishouston 03-16-2010 03:41 PM

Love it. Other artists I am digging on the "ambience" side of things are Flying Lotus, DJ Unwind and Skye.

PaulRevere 03-18-2010 02:26 PM

I am pretty sure that ( ) will haunt me for the rest of my life, listened to it during a emo freshmen year of college, lol

Farfisa 03-18-2010 08:49 PM

I played some Sigur Ros (The acoustic version of "Njosnavelin") for my friends the other day... they talked about cutting themselves (jokingly as in how bad it was). :(

Not the most exciting response.

Well it's true.
I understand difference in opinion, but Sigur Ros? Cutting?

The dude that talked about cutting himself is going to a Ben Folds Five concert in about a week.

I do not pity him.

I saw Ben Folds live and he actually put on a really fun show.

Janszoon 03-20-2010 01:53 PM

I have a funny relationship with Sigur Rós. I really liked Ágætis byrjun but never bothered checking out anything after it. I think I wasn't sure what direction they could possibly go in with their sound that wouldn't be a letdown.

Music is a matter of taste and feelings :( Your friends probably aren't on wave of dreamy atmospheric music.

Ok, so if I understand well, you are afraid you will be dissapointed with other albums. Than I recommend to try album ( ) - togeher with Ágætis byrjun my two favourites and I hope it won't dissapoint you. At least sound of this album is in my opinion more similar to Ágætis byrjun than other albums.

Degree7 03-20-2010 05:41 PM

I downloaded Takk and listened to it for a while.

Then I realized it was overblown symphonic prog.
Ágætis byrjun and () are much better albums, I'd say.

Janszoon, you can see I am not only one with this opinion :)

spiderlandcapt 04-28-2010 08:57 PM

( ) is the best one for sure. Untitled 8 is their most intense song easily! That DVD where they play in Iceland is unreal.

I rate Ágætis Byrjun over ( ) but i definitely agree with you on Untitled 8, it builds into one of the most intense, memorable, mind-blowing climaxes ever. It's definitely one of my favourite SR tracks.

Farfisa 05-09-2010 04:48 PM

Speaking of untitled 8...

dac 05-17-2010 05:44 PM

I think I've come to the school of thought of Agaetis being their best, after thinking it was () for about forever.

clutnuckle 05-17-2010 06:34 PM

I'm probably never going to leave the school of ( ) worship... I congratulate you for escaping. :S

TheFolkslave 05-18-2010 03:20 PM

Ágætis byrjun is really lovely but I think it's impossible for me to ever escape the colossal aura of epicness that ( ) has.

So i'm giving my first full listen of Valtari today. And holy shit, this album is incredible. Matches exactly what I was hoping for in terms of a new Sigur Ros album. It's very relaxing and very emotional in all aspects. I just listened to Dauðalogn. Then it turns to Varðeldur.

This albums is incredible so far. I'm excited to see how the rest plays out.

They saved the best song for last with 'Fjögur Píanó', it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard from them. I'm loving Valtari so far, it's certainly not as accessible as Takk so it might put off a few people, but it's a damn fine addition to their discography.

I'm excited to hear the final track then. I just listened to the Valtari track. Another absolutely beautiful track. This may become my 2nd favorite album below Takk, because I still find that album to be one of their greatest pieces of work.

WWWP 04-18-2012 04:47 PM

There's always an anxiousness that goes along with the release of a new album from a band you love but I'm really, really thrilled with Valtari.
