Sigur Ros
new album coming out... haven't heard it yet but i have high expectations. lemme know if you've heard it.
|
looking forward to this album too :)
|
ok, so i've noticed that this has fewer responses than a similarly titled lcd thread, but just wait until you hear the new sigur ros cd... they're going to demolish with more layers of distorted hand-claps, ironic lyrics, and jagged edges than you can shake an electroclash stick at. actually, it'll probably be the absolute opposite, but sigur ros covering lcd soundsystem does paint a funny mental audio picture...
if you haven't heard their stuff, their label is holding a contest to give away their entire discography at www.diamonddog.ca/sigurros i already got mine, so i don't need it. |
grat band.Original and engaging.
|
Sigur Ros is awesome. Gonna try and get thier new album somehow.
|
Good, but way too boring way too fast.
|
still don't have it :( should get it soon!
|
Got the new cd but havent listened yet.
liked everything so far. Some people find them a bit saccahrine but I think they smoke well. |
the last song on takk is called heysatan.....hahahahha....what a lovely little tune they sing to satan.....ain't that just i-wanna-saw-my-head-off-with-a-rusty-chainsaw-funny?...WELL?! AIN'T IT?!!?
|
got it a few weeks ago... very good! not as good as the last two but certainly top 50 for the year!
|
love this band. i discovered them about 3 or 4 years ago and i was shocked at the beauty
|
oh! oh! me! me!
I LOVE sigur ros :) |
hey, my friend got me into sigur ros, ny batteri is a great song...
AND THEY ARE COMING TO AUSTRALIA |
i think the new album is a little bit, TOO ambient for me. i'll stick to mogwai.
|
i think that nothing can be better than takk.
|
Sigur Rós are great! I think Takk... is their best album, but the others are good to.
Best thing outta Iceland ever, except for one half of me:laughing: |
Sigur Rós kick ass. Their music is really emotive and beautiful and strange. Good stuff.

maus and minus aretwo of my favorites, maus definitely has a more melodic sound, places a lot of emphasis on the production of the music. Someone described sigur ross's new CD as "ambient", that's a great way to describe maus's stuff. here's a link to some songs of theirs, check them out: http://www.maus.is/en/ minus's stuff is a lot heavier, pretty different from maus, but you can hear some similarities in their music, at least I can anyway. here's link to some of their songs: http://www.myspace.com/minus |
I love sigur ros. One of the most inspiring bands I know and your right the new album will - when I get it - be amazing too. <3<3
|
I've heard abit of sigur ros, but not enough for a proper opinion :]

Not to mention the fact that at the time I posted the second quote you were comparing them to Explosions in the Sky, who are easily on of the best Post-Rock bands. |
Explosions in the Sky are like Godspeed You! Black Emperor with the self-indulgent overly long buildups cut out. Which is a great thing.
I'm listening to the Ros right now. |

As for Sigur Ros, I think I said in that other thread that ( ) was the only album that I REALLY enjoy. I did like Takk... at first, I'll admit that. I say it right in this thread, but it got way too boring way too fast for me to say I really like it now. |
Got to say that I don't really like Sigur Ros. I think its the singing, as the guy sounds like some kind of smurf. Or maybe its just because most reviewers wet themselves so thoroughly about the band that when I actually hearing the music its underwhelming.
Can anybody here explain to me why they like Sigur Ros, to help me understand what the fuss is about? |
I bought the album months ago
Found it today still wrapped oops :o: |
Breaking news: BB King is going to release a CD of covers of Sigus Ros songs from their latest album.
Working title... 'Blue Takk' |

for me, it's just really nice atmospheric, nordic music, at times monumental, mostly just relaxing and beautiful.... it's actually the only album i can listen to and study at the same time, perhapse it's because i can't understand a word they're saying so it's not distracting... |

To use an analogy, imaging if you had never seen a great movie, The Shawshank Redemption, say. What if, before you saw it for the first time, somebody went on about it for an hour, telling you that it was the best martial-arts action movie they had ever seen, great choregraphy, awesome fight scene, amazing special effects. I think there would be a big chance that you would miss the drama waiting for the action to happen. Likewise I think that, through being given the wrong impression by music critics etc. Sigur Ros have been one of those bands that I don't like because I'm listening to it from the wrong angle. Generally I can explain why I like or dislike music, its pretty important for me to be able to do this! |
I don`t really listen to Sigur Ros , It`s the sort of thing I like to have playing in the background.

they bore me rigid

i think critics might have 'mislead' you because it's really dificult to describe their sound,
i think especially when you're not from a scandinavian country, where this sort of sound is more familiar i guess i won't even try to describe what i like about them, because i knów i won't find the right words! it's just that feeling you get ... i simply lóve sigur rós...:) |
I love love love this band, Takk...is brilliant but I like Agaetis Byrjun best i think.
|
i listen to Sigur Ros before i go to bed. puts me to sleep in like 10 minutes. Takk rocks.

Sigur Ros is awesome! I wouldn't expect many people to appreciate the subtle beauty of their music (especially in this day and age) but to me, it doesn't get much better than Aegtis Byrjun. Svefn G Englar sounds like it was created by angels
|
im seeing them soon!!!
next week in fact!! YEY |
Heard of Sigur Ros?
Sigur Ros is a band from Iceland, though they're not strictly classical, they use a lot of strings and piano. The singer has a lovely, near angelic voice. I recently introduced my grandparents (classical lovers) to one of their CD's and they love it. My point of this thread is that they told me they haven't purchased a new CD in decades and I've found something they are interested in.
|
Yeah, I've heard of them. A couple of my friends like them. I would describe them as progressive rather than classical though.
