I'll hook you up, I'll up it here in a few. 192 bit ok?

FaSho 08-07-2009 02:35 PM

That's fine. Thanks broseph.

gotjuice 08-07-2009 02:35 PM

Not a problem.

quitta 08-11-2009 08:11 AM

They're like happy little elves to me - always such a dreamy melody, but gets annoying if you hear it more than three times. =)

I just found the translation for Hoppipolla online. I never really thought there would be one. But I read the english translation and I actually enjoy the lyrics, they are how I would thought they would be. But I almost wish there wasn't a direct translation so you could decide yourself what the words mean to you. I wrote out my own translation of the song Takk once.

FaSho 08-11-2009 07:07 PM

Well thanks gotjuice, but I think Von is crap compared to all their other albums. Sounds way too droney.

gotjuice 08-11-2009 10:57 PM

It's definitely different. Dogun, Myrkur, and Von are pretty good though. With a lot of it though the ambient stuff does indeed drone on too long. Definitely interesting though to hear some of their first outputs.

dac 08-12-2009 08:36 PM

Von is better than Med Sud. The drone and ambiance is what makes Sigur Ros who they are (well, when they're good at least).

SATCHMO 08-12-2009 08:45 PM

I have Takk, but haven't listened to it yet.

Have you heard Ágætis byrjun?

No. I've been pretty puzzled with where to start with these guys.

Jester 08-12-2009 09:22 PM

Takk works fine as an entry point, but it's not their best.

SATCHMO 08-12-2009 09:23 PM

I generally am trying to get as far away from a rock/pop aesthetic as possible.

sweet_nothing 08-12-2009 09:30 PM

Takk... is a pretty good album but Ágætis byrjun is their crowning glory. It's the most gorgeous album I've ever heard. You should check that out next.

SATCHMO 08-12-2009 09:35 PM

It seems for a while everyone was creamin' their jeans over ().

sweet_nothing 08-12-2009 09:41 PM

That's a good album too, slighty better than Takk... but Ágætis byrjun just blows them blow away. But if you're not into some slightly droning music then you probably won't like (). The lyrics are repeated throughout the album and some of the songs are pretty much the same chord progression or notes repeated.

SATCHMO 08-12-2009 09:46 PM

I'll definitely give Takk a listen tonight.

gotjuice 08-12-2009 09:55 PM

I like () over Agaetis, both are incredibly cathartic albums but () is just a mindblowing experience. Yes, there is a lot of repetition, both lyrically and musically, but that minimalism only adds to the power of the album for me, because they're able to create such an grand, epic, sonic masterpiece using limited parts. To me it's like drawing a great picture using a set of 12 crayons or a set of 128. Obviously both drawings in this case are fantastic records, but the 12 crayons one is slightly more impressive to look at (or listen to).

SATCHMO 08-12-2009 09:59 PM

Well I'm a couple songs into Takk and already I know that this is a band I'd like to hear more from. They lose me a bit when the drums and vocals come in, but that's just my own musical eccentricities.

gotjuice 08-12-2009 10:04 PM

All of their albums are fairly different than the others, so it's tough to point you in a specific direction. I'd say definitely give both Agaetis and () a listen though because you really can't go wrong with either.

sweet_nothing 08-12-2009 10:09 PM

() may draw good pictures with crayons but Ágætis byrjun draws masterpieces with paint.

gotjuice 08-13-2009 12:03 AM

Meh, I've always liked crayon drawings more than paintings anyhow;)

BamBam 08-13-2009 07:44 AM

Let's hear this. The previous album was quite enjoyed here in the UK. Although probably not the lyrics :)

Shoe 08-13-2009 12:09 PM

I just picked up Ágætis Byrjun. Really excited to give it a listen. What makes it different than say Takk? I've only heard Takk and () and I know Takk a lot better than ()

It's a lot closer to (), that's for sure. Takk has a LOT of pop elements and that does it for some, but I find () and Agaetis to be a lot more rewarding.

Speaking of Heima (well we are now!), Pitchfork is showing the entire doc for one week. Head on over there if you haven't already seen it!

Roemilca 11-10-2009 04:06 PM

Oh god, I can't stand Pitchfork.

adidasss 11-10-2009 04:08 PM

Thanks for letting us know.

Hello, it seems to be so great band!
I'm just discovering their music. I started with Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust because I got it in library and I have also album ( ) because lot of people say it's their best. Hm, I am going to have all discography.
Very nice music

For my friends it's too weird or too boring... For me not, I really like odd music and I am used to it. When I compare Sigur Rós with mongolian music, it's not so strange ;)
And boring? I think it depends how you listen to it. It can be nice background music. But when you find some time and want to relax, this music makes my soul fly :D

clutnuckle 01-30-2010 12:03 PM

( ) = <3

DeadShotKeen 02-05-2010 04:26 PM

I'd say 'Agaetis Byrjun' is their best LP overall but the first 4 songs on '()' are as good as they ever got. Track 4 on there is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. Real game of 2 halves though that LP as the final 4 songs I find pretty dull, just never been able to get into them. 'Takk' is pretty great, has a bit of a weak mid-section but the first 2 tracks were quite tough to follow. 'Med Sud....' I quite like, liked the new style with 'Gobbledi****', it's a mixed bag record but there's a lot to admire. Never bothered with 'Von', not heard much praise for it, always too many highly-regarded LPs to pick up.

Fabulous, unique band everyone should hear.

clutnuckle 02-06-2010 09:55 AM

EE SAYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAA

Thems some beautiful vocals.

I downloaded the Beginner's Comp a month or so ago.
I'm so in love.

I will, hehe.
But I didn't know if I was going to like them when I downloading the compilation.

I also didn't know. But I was brave enough to start with albums - ( ) and Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust.
I love weird music

Arya Stark 02-06-2010 01:48 PM

I don't really think it's weird, just a little different.

You're welcome.
I guess you could just get the albums based on which songs you liked the most, but I would suggest getting 'Takk...' first.

I told you I loved it on your page.
You never commented back.
=PP

And alright maybe I will get that album.

dac 02-08-2010 05:31 PM

Pick up the album Sigur Ros did with Steindor Anderson... IMO it puts Takk to shame.
