The Incredible Flying Torture Orchestra

I figure this is where I'll keep all my personal music related stuff from now on. Ignore the first couple pages, most of those links are dead anyway.

Original post:

Sterf Nu

If you're really bored, feel free to check out this 9 minute long jam (song will automatically start) I recorded with my brother today. And if you manage to work up the motivation to click on the link and listen to the first couple seconds, you could maybe even give some feedback. Hell, constructive criticism - well, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself there. If you feel like it don't bother clicking on it at all and just tell me it was a piece of shi t.

If you do make it through, I would be most grateful if you could give it some kind of rating on a scale of bad - terrible.

Merkaba 03-06-2006 06:44 PM

Buffering sucks. I hate when all my broadband is used up for the month, everything that streams goes so slow.

I like the first 1:07 though:p:

I like music like that where you don't have to concentrate to enjoy it, makes for good background music or along the lines of. Obviously this means nothing if you up the tempo in the remaining 8 minutes, since I haven't heard it.

It's not bad man. Keep it coming. Are you looking to form a complete band or do you and your brother plan on going it alone for the time being?

cardboard adolescent 03-06-2006 06:46 PM

I think we might throw another couple friends into the mix, but I doubt it'll actually go anywhere.

Just a way to try to develop some kind of musical style and evade boredom.

The Injun

Somebody check out this song and tell me what you think. I can't promise anything except that it's strange as hell and may be slightly amusing. I found it to be, anyway.

The Injun

cardboard adolescent 04-08-2006 06:44 PM

BUMP

Someone please listen to this. This is me begging you. Don't even listen to the entire thing. Listen to it for a minute and just give me your impression.

bungalow 04-08-2006 07:43 PM

Wow, what was that? Who is Serf Nu?
Just a bunch of talking.....a story......strange. Anyway, is this your band?

mosesandtherubberducky 04-08-2006 07:46 PM

It is wierd

And as a side note CA I've gotten every album you've posted a link to in the favorite albums thread. They're all pretty good. Thinking Fellers Local Union #282 (hopes he got it right without looking) are pretty good.

cardboard adolescent 04-08-2006 09:57 PM

Sterf Nu is me and my brother, for now. He's the one improvising the weird rambling story and playing guitar. I'm playing drums.

And cool, I'm glad you like TFUL.

bungalow 04-08-2006 10:44 PM

My Pal The Tortoise is great.
How old is your brother?
And was all that improvised?

Laces Out Dan! 04-08-2006 11:04 PM

Dude that was sooo fuc.ked up...

My brother's 15 and he's completely out of his mind, so, yes, that was all improvised.

bungalow 04-08-2006 11:24 PM

And how old are you?

cardboard adolescent 04-08-2006 11:28 PM

17

Thanks. I'm just gonna take that as a compliment.

alice_skyling 04-10-2006 10:00 AM

the rambling is totally strange =_=
and random outbursts somewhat awkward.
the music at some points kinda rock tho. :3

cardboard adolescent 04-23-2006 09:15 AM

Yet another ...... song

Satan wants you to listen to this.

swim 04-23-2006 09:22 AM

you seriously need to discover what a four track is.

littleknowitall 04-23-2006 09:26 AM

^ im with this guy on this one^ and there was far too much feedback, and not in the cool rock n roll way and a lot of it was out of key, and there were a lot of bum notes, im sorry but there were, and the drum fill in the intro was out of time. i feel mean, :(

swim 04-23-2006 09:27 AM

i think he uses a mic which is fine, but what i do when i record tracks is i dont use drums and when things sound bad i adjust the eqs, like...
www.purevolume.com/thebestofcy

littleknowitall 04-23-2006 09:29 AM

absolutely no feedback, completely in key, no bum notes, and for someone without the aid of a drum kit you kept pretty in time through it all:), that's how its done.

swim 04-23-2006 09:32 AM

thank you, id have more posted but im too lazy to convert files

littleknowitall 04-23-2006 09:36 AM

check out my band in the general forum, not many people have heard us out and i don't like it:( i have an exciting new band and i want not so much recognition but attention.

cardboard adolescent 04-23-2006 09:38 AM

I'm poor and lazy.

A couple of our songs are recorded one instrument at a time, but most of our songs are just jam sessions.

you can get 4 tracks for like 50 bucks.
i wouldnt record with your drummer id find a drumming program.

cardboard adolescent 04-23-2006 09:44 AM

I should replace myself with a drumming program?

...shit.

investing in a metronome might solve it.

I doubt a metronome would help us much. My brother just goes off on insane tangents that most of the time don't adhere to any kind of time signature... I just keep up and do whatever seems interesting. I like this song because I'm the only one who can actually keep up with my brother and the bassist gives up halfway through because she has no idea what the fuck is going on.

But I listen to shit like the Nihilist Spasm Band so I realize that unchecked feedback and rambling guitar improvisation isn't really for everyone.

cardboard adolescent 06-20-2006 06:10 PM

My New Song

ae.sev
^^if you choose to listen to the above you will discover it is godawful unlistenable noise. And not the good kind either. But if you should be kind enough to listen to it and give me some feedback, please not that it picks up a bit shortly after the one minute mark. I would appreciate commentary on my experimentation.

mosesandtherubberducky 06-20-2006 06:42 PM

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

It is experimental though. Were you hitting the guitar strings with a screwdriver? (I've done it it sounds cool)

There's a lot of stuff going on in this though. At one point it sounded like a ska cd that was scratched. Sorry but that's all I can give you for now. It's pretty cool though.

Laces Out Dan! 06-20-2006 06:47 PM

Uhmm....im not sure what to say about it...you were definetly experimenting...uhmm..im a little short for words right now

Uglycasanova 06-20-2006 07:12 PM

Everything sounds bad when its made with a $5 tape recorder or whatever you used(eg Nirvana's Silver album). It certainly was an expirement but Iv'e heard worse from the pop bands of today.

swim 06-20-2006 08:26 PM

I remember listening to your other stuff. I actually like this one. It has a cool feel. The intro is cool.

cardboard adolescent 06-20-2006 10:56 PM

I was hitting the guitar with my drumstick.

Because I don't know how to play guitar.

cardboard adolescent 06-20-2006 11:38 PM

Bah, I didn't realize the drums were mixed so low. I fixed that, in case anyone cares.

cardboard adolescent 07-07-2006 07:47 PM

This one is worth it

Alright, here it goes again. This one is a (more) listenable song... and a cover.

of... Captain Beefheart.

Please check it out and let me know what you think.

Sterf Nu - Dust Blows Forwards

swim 07-07-2006 07:53 PM

I wasn't expecting anything like that. It's very good.

cardboard adolescent 07-07-2006 08:17 PM

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

cardboard adolescent 07-12-2006 04:06 PM

Here's another one done similarly. It has so many tracks it'll make your head explode.

Sterf Nu - Opus

swim 07-12-2006 04:28 PM

I like how it starts really thin and then builds up but, after the 2 minute mark it gets a little boring.

cardboard adolescent 08-10-2006 07:49 PM

listen damn you

I stole an Anthony Braxton song to make this:

Sterf Nu - Waves
(probably my best song so far, much appreciated if you would check it out)

and here's one just for shits and giggles

Sterf Nu - Conformity!
(fun little punk rock song, terrible quality and recorded in one try without any sort of preparation)
