I kinda have a thing for Emmylou...

I'm a huge country fan, though I never listen to country radio. Not that all popular country is bad - it just isn't what usually draws me in. I love Laura Cantrell, Jimmy LaFave, Elizabeth Cook, Neko, Hank Williams, The Louvin Brothers, Wilie Nelson, Lucinda... there are too many to list. Right now I'm listening to Eilen Jewell.

There's a lot of variety in country music (bluegrass and country-pop don't sound much alike, for example). Writing off all country as sounding the same is pretty ignorant. Your loss.

I'm English (rah) so Jackhammer's words apply to me. I have some Ryan Adams, Elvis Costello's 'Blue', Cash at Folsom Prison, can't remember anything else, it just doesn't get the time of day from me. Dylan ofcourse but he's authentic and folky

More than prepared to be swayed though. I saw a bit of some big c&w awards coverage in the US, there were pyrotechnics, plaid vests, rednecks. Terrible. I hope that's not what we're talking about

Have you tried Whiskeytown? I prefer them to anything Ryan Adams has done solo. You might also try Cash's American Recordings, or some bands (like Uncle Tupelo) that were in the No Depression crowd.

Dylan's Nashville Skyline is a great country album, and I think Almost Blue is underrated.

I find Whiskeytown to be generic at best

I'm into :

Neko Case
Old 97's
Hank III
Wayne Hancock
Tim Easton
Ryan Adams
500 Miles To Memphis
Drive By Truckers
Lucinda Williams
Steve Earle
The Reverend Horton Heat
Holy Rollin' Hellfires
Cash
Dolly Parton

etc.

Well I lived in Georgia for six years, and now I live in a town where there's almost as much country at dances as there is hip hop.

Add that to the amount of early Zeppelin I have been listening too, and it's no surprise I find myself tolerating country more and more.

I love Country music, and my neck is red as the Georgia Clay.

You can try to mock us, but it only makes us stronger.

Hell yea! My neck is as red as Ga. Clay too... They even say that Woodstock has the darkest color of red!

I'd like to request that the title of this thread is changed to "why DON'T you like country music?". Because THAT seems to be the question that people have difficulty answering or even elaborating on.

"LOZ COUNTRY MUSIK SUX JUST COS IT DUZ I DONT LIKE PEOPLE WHO LISTEN TO IT THEY ARE DUMB LOZ"

Gimme a break. Most people who hate country merely do it out of blind prejudice and never even listen to it, or at least haven't explored it. There's plenty going on outside of that rubbish mainstream country pop crap. It's pretty vast, all things considered.
