Hey all, this thread hasn't gotten much attention from the OP, but I'm happy to pick up where he left off.

My boyfriend is from the Muğla region of Turkey, where this song (and dance) is gold. All young men and women from the area learn the Kerimoğlu dance and song, although there are a variety of versions. I'm told this is one of the best on youtube, but feel free to disagree!

The song's lyrics are about the changes in the landscape, flora, and fauna...the old wise men and the deer have left the mountains. :(

That's enough traditional stuff for now, although I have plenty more where that came from if anyone is interested.

Here's a super popular pop-dance song that you can hear everywhere in Turkey at the moment... I believe the melody is sampled/copied from something, but not sure what. Let me know if you know.

Gökçe is an extremely famous pop star in Turkey. I like the horn sounds in this track, and also the catchy fast lyrics. The song is about having one's heart thrown back and forth...being lied to, etc.
Enjoy!

Hi all, I guess this thread is not the most popular thing ever, but maybe someone will enjoy this lovely/uber popular track by Duman, which means "smoke" in Turkish.

The song is called "Senden Daha Güzel," which translates to "More Beautiful Than You"--but strangely, the song is all about how nothing is more beautiful than you. The bank is grungy for Turkey, IMHO, so if you're interested, they do have darker stuff floating around.

Enjoy!

Here's another Turkish classic for ya'll. Every Turkish person knows this song, and it is incredibly erotic/romantic. It paints a very nice picture of how liberal Turkey was in those days (1975).

ENJOY! I adore this song, and I think Semiha is so beautiful!

Here's my favorite Turkish song. A truly great ballad.

What do you think of Ismail YK, simpleman? He's one of my favorite Turkish artists. And, also, what about İbrahim Tatlıses (for me he's the greatest)

I see, you are interested in ethnic music, so you may be interested to take a look at the Ethnocloud website too. Just google it. Unfortunately, I saw only one band there playing Turkish music, but there are lots of very good Balkan groups.

Hihi. This is not a new song, but it's by another crazy/random (crandom) Turkish pop star. He's short and annoying, but this song is very sexy. I love it when he says "Soup air, soup air".

HA. Video is also creepy. Anyway, give it a try.

Looking pretty empty in here, but hey, what the hell.

This song has gotten super popular in the past few weeks. I'm hearing it at every bar, café, convenience store, night club, whatever. So have a listen:

Worth the hype? I think not. The song title, Yatcaz Kalkcaz Ordayım, means "go to bed, get up, I'm there."

What do you think?

It's pretty catchy and I get why it's all over the place.

There is something odd sonically about the chorus though. It seems a bit off.

Everything is dance with weird melodies these days. Turks love singing along to everything, so this one will be around for a while. What do you mean about the chorus? Is it about her voice? It's been a bit synthed, hasn't it...

djchameleon 06-26-2013 07:41 AM

It's the pause that happens during the chorus. It seems kind of weird and messes with the flow of catchiness. Maybe it fits for what she is saying but meh. I don't like the way it sounds. What is she saying during the chorus anyways?
