How dare the police arrest somebody breaking the law :D

the cop isn't responsible for his death, that's obvious. but at the same time it's 2017 and there are still laws not only preventing you from having the choice to put certain substances in your body but also imprisoning you for it. pretty ****ed up scenario we gots.

Totally separate issue though. I'm undecided on whether drugs should be legal but I'm not bothered about that here.

My issue is that this guy knowingly broke the law, then resisted arrest, unfortunately he has died but now we have people who think the police are in the wrong for doing their jobs :D anyone crying for justice needs to get a grip.

About to go off in North London apparently. Nothing says justice like a new pair of huaraches

Police can and often do ignore stupid laws.

They do sometimes yeah.

They also don't like it when you resist arrest.

OccultHawk 07-24-2017 03:28 PM

Stupid laws are meant to be broken

Having done wrong by authority (the law in this case) does not automatically mean a moral failure because not all forms of authority are legit

The cop isn't necessarily responsible but I'd say the drug laws are

Well at least you're not going with the 'woz murdered cos he woz black' rubbish.

The guy who died is responsible, nobody else. If he had just handed it over and said yeah, you got me officer, he might have got away with it for all we know. I've seen police do that before if it's a small amount for personal use (not me but people I was with). But this guy walked off and it appears he tried to hide the evidence.

I suppose the issue is that you and the online nation thinks it's everyone else's fault but the guy who chose to break the law. And as I said, I am open to the discussion about whether drugs should be legal or not but right now, they aren't.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 07-25-2017 08:32 AM

laws are gay anarchy for life

He most likely had more than what is considered a personal use amount which to be fair, is typically very small for schedule I drugs.

 nice strawman. The officer is not directly responsible, it's indicative of a wider use of archaic laws. Not to mention that there are loads of drug users who turn to heroin and other street opiates to manage their pain, which adds a lot of grey area to the idea that having drugs means that you're choosing to break the law.

NFL: CTE found in 99% of studied brains from deceased players - CNN.com

Surely this is worrying? Ninety-****ing-nine percent? This does not bode well for the players of today, does it?

OccultHawk 07-25-2017 12:21 PM

It's bad news for those who don't make the NFL.

I'd take a head injury for several million dollars. Rich and stupid. Nice.

Kinda hard to notice a concussion when you're getting a blowjob from Brazilian twins in a hot tub filled with champagne.

It's nothing to do with morality. If you live in a society with laws, obey them or face the consequences. I don't like taxes, but I still pay them.

is your response to again failure to pay taxes that an individual deserves punishment or is it exclusively that he will face punishment

of course a person deserves punishment if they fail to pay taxes in a system that has laws about paying taxes. This stuff is rather simple.

Goofle 07-26-2017 01:38 AM

I guess they would deserve it in the least morally responsible sense. Words are flexible in that way. But the examples you gave don't really fall under the same ethical bracket as taxes. Some things are worse than others.

OccultHawk 07-26-2017 04:18 AM

I'm a little confused. Did the Republicans just got to continue to work on repealing Obamacare or did they actually repeal it?
