Whenever I hear stories of cops or soldiers getting killed, I normally have ZERO sympathy. With all of the crooked cops and the war machine that is the military industrial complex, they usually have it coming.

County Sheriff's are the only "law enforcement" officers that are directly elected by the public, so they usually get a bit of a pass in my book [EDIT: not a pass to break the law, but more sympathy I mean]

There's over 1 million cops in the US. There's over 2 million serving in one of the US military arms.

I thought a$$hole of the year was all sewn up. Nope. You win. Hands down.

What an absolutely jerk thing to say.

I think it is, by it's nature, a very difficult thing to consider what to feel about the police and the military. At least if you're being realistic about it.

On one hand, cops and soldiers do actually keep us safe. That is not up for debate. On the other hand, you also know that most cops and soldiers are going to serve their government, no matter if it asks them to do good or "evil". The police and the military are not inherently a moral entity. They are merely lackeys that will do good if commanded to do so, but also the opposite with equal conviction.

Then there's abuses of power and such, but that's peanuts in the big picture (which sounds like I don't think it matters, but that is not the case).

OccultHawk 01-01-2018 11:17 AM

Back to the offensive part. Went so far as to capitalize the word zero.

Every single person who is a cop or serving in the military has maybe a mother, a father, sisters, brothers, a spouse, kids, close friends, cousins, comrades, etc.

Let's say there's 50,000 rotten cops roaming the streets. Do you have ZERO sympathy for the other 95% of them out there doing their job?

The vast majority of the military are folks trained to follow orders - no questions asked. The vast majority of them are decent people. I'll have ZERO sympathy when Dick Cheney dies.

That's the problem. They follow orders like brainless twats, regardless of the morality of the orders.

Murder is wrong, unless you have a badge or are told to do so by someone in a fancy suit, right?

Killing one person is murder. Killing thousands is war. Why is one wrong and the other deemed acceptable?

They look out for those 50k and in turn assume responsibility for their actions. You might have a point if our cops were ever held accountable for anything.

That park must be a mother****er to maintain. They get suicides and people looking for corpses. Let’s face it. If you want to look at trees you’re not going to hike and camp in a park that has a suicide every three days.

So, those bakers that refused to bake a wedding cake for some homosexuals got fined like $135,000. What a crock of shit. A bar owner has the right to refuse service to a customer if he thinks they've have had too much to drink. That is a personal opinion, is it not? Can't a bakery owner refuse service based on their personal opinions as well?

Again, I'm not saying it's a good practice, but as the owner, it is your right to refuse service. If you are wet and covered in mud, a restaurant will refuse to let you come sit in their booth. If you lack shoes and a shirt, a grocery store won't let you come in. If you wear a ski mask and hoodie, you aren't welcome in a convenience store.

Let's just keep chipping away at personal liberties until they're all gone.

The fact that you think the two are equatable is hysterical.

"So you can get in trouble for openly refusing service to white people because they're white, but you can kick people out of your store for being naked and rubbing their cocks on your windows? Those r both opinions and why can't I just tell all the ***gots to leave when they make me uncomfortable."

They stripped us of the right to own slaves and have been spitting directly in the faces of every American ever since.

OccultHawk 01-02-2018 11:35 AM

Why should owners be allowed to own?

You SHOULDN'T get in trouble for refusing service to whiteys [NOTE: we need to bring that word back, I love it] based on their skin color. As an owner, that should be your prerogative. Same with the "cock rubbers" that you mentioned.

If it's my store, I'll do with it what I damn well please. If I have shitty business practices, I won't get sales and will be forced to close shop. It's not rocket science.

Owning a fellow human being and refusing to bake a cake are not in the same ballpark homie. Not even the same fucking game.

That, my friend, is a different conversation, but an important one. The "right" or power to "own" something and what that actually means. That would be a good thread to start.

Your store is in a country with a law of the land (and of the pen) that certain business practices are not allowed. It's not rocket science. If you don't like it then you can git out!

Plus, discriminating against minorities is against the law because you can still get by on selling to the majority. The right to infringe on the rights of other is not a right that you or anyone else deserves.

Denying service is not infringing on anyone's "rights." If I'm a store owner, you don't have a "right" to shop at my store, you have the PRIVILEGE. Know the difference.

Just like people saying that you have the RIGHT to free health care. No, you don't. You don't EVER have the RIGHT to someone else's labor, and you never will.

That should be easy enough for you to understand.

Know what rights are in the legal sense (you're currently using it colloquially)

Abridging (limiting or denying) privileges is the same as denying rights. Capiche?

A citizen and their privately owned business is DIFFERENT than a state, Mr. Wordsmith, and they have different rights.

That is physical harm. That violates the non-aggression principle. So no, they DON'T have that right by my logic. Refusing to bake someone a cake is not physical harm.
