What's a penis worth? $795,000, according to a court ruling.

The court in Bucharest, Romania, ordered a doctor to pay that amount in compensation after surgery that went horribly wrong.

The Romanian surgeon was ordered to hand over the money to a patient whose penis he accidentally severed during a botched operation.

The court was told that in July 2004, Dr. Naum Ciomu made a surgical error while operating on the man's testicles, severing the penis instead of making an incision to the testicle.

Bucharest Magistrates Court ruled in July 2008 that Ciomu had been superficial in his approach to the operation. They ordered the fine and also handed Ciomu a one-year suspended sentence. The court's ruling can be appealed.

The court heard how a piece of muscle from the victim's arm has now been attached to where his penis was. But its function is purely aesthetic.

The man's lawyer Mihai Olariu said: "You don't have to be an expert to realize that the 33-year-old victim does not have a good state of mind."

Just in case y'all menfolks were wondering just exactly how much the family jewels were worth!

Talk about the UNDERSTATEMENT of the century... (last line)

For your British information, the Medal of Honor is United States' highest military decoration. To put this into respect, there have been around 3,500 total recipients since the American Civil War and FOUR during the war in Iraq.

A hero, indeed!

i liked that that story included quips from his friends and family ~ sort of lets you know a little more about him than just his name.

Thanx for the link, Sam!

Yeah but she is British so she's supposed to look dead. Still, what an ugly corpse.

From my local newspaper..

Quote:

A Pennsylvania man says he stole two goats to make his girlfriend happy but shot and killed the animals after they butted his pickup truck.

Calvin Flahart pleaded guilty to cruelty to animals on Thursday in Lancaster County Court.

A prosecutor says Flahart stole the goats and some farm equipment from a barn in Martic Township in January 2009. The foreclosed property belonged to his girlfriend's grandfather, and its contents were about to be auctioned.

Flahart told a judge he killed the animals a couple of days later because "they were not nice goats. They head-butted my truck."

Flahart said he didn't return the goats because he was afraid of getting caught.

He was sentenced to 67 days to 23 months in prison.

A Philadelphia woman, Jean Stevens, had the embalmed bodies of her twin sister and her husband dug-up. She took them home to live with her.

Mrs. Stevens, 91, has cared for James, her husband of 60 years, dead now for more than a decade. She placed him on a couch in her garage.

Her twin sister died of cancer in October. Jean buried her twin in the twin's own backyard, then had her 'retrieved' and moved to her own house.

June Stevens was dug-up just a couple of days after burial. She has laid in a spare room and received tender care from twin sister. Jean dressed her in her best housecoat, put her glasses back on and treated her loved one to her favorite perfume. Jean and June married twin brothers.

BOSTON -- Five Massachusetts residents have been charged with leaving an 80-year-old family matriarch to lie for more than a month in a reclining chair in her own urine and feces.

The Fall River woman is in critical condition. Prosecutors said Wednesday she had a blood infection and severe bedsores, including one so deep that tendons could be seen through her decomposing skin.

Police found the woman Saturday after a family member called 911. A spokesman for Bristol District Attorney Sam Sutter says paramedics found the woman drifting in and out of consciousness in the recliner.

The victim's daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren were arrested Monday on charges of permitting injury to an elderly or disabled person.

Their lawyers did not return calls seeking comment.

Man with dead weasel accused of assault - Yahoo! News

Quote:

HOQUIAM, Wash. – Police say a man was carrying a dead weasel when he burst into an apartment and assaulted a man in Washington state.
The victim asked, "Why are you carrying a weasel?" Police said the attacker answered, "It's not a weasel, it's a marten," then punched him in the nose and fled.
The attacker was apparently looking for his girlfriend and had gone to her former boyfriend's apartment Monday where the victim was a guest.
KXRO reports he left the carcass behind.
Police later found the 33-year-old Hoquiam man arguing with his girlfriend at another location and arrested him after a fight.
He said he had found the marten dead near Hoquiam, but police don't know why he carried it with him.
A marten is a member of the weasel family.

Father, son drown in Lakewood pond while operating toy boat | NJ.com

Quote:

LAKEWOOD -- Investigators said a man and his teenage son apparently drowned while playing with a remote control boat at an Ocean County fishing pond.

But it's still not clear how Mark Volz and his 17-year-old son, Mark Jr., ended up in the water on Monday afternoon.

The Toms River residents were last seen operating the four- to five-foot boat around 4:30 p.m. at the edge of the pond here.

Nearly two hours later, a passer-by saw the boat bobbing in the water and noticed an empty pickup truck nearby, along with a fishing pole, boats, wallet and keys in the grass. The passer-by called the police, and the bodies were found a short time later.

Family members declined to comment on the accident.

ONONDAGA, N.Y. -- Police say a motorcyclist participating in a protest ride against helmet laws in upstate New York died after he flipped over the bike's handlebars and hit his head on the pavement.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon in the town of Onondaga, in central New York near Syracuse.

State troopers tell The Post-Standard of Syracuse that 55-year-old Philip A. Contos of Parish, N.Y., was driving a 1983 Harley Davidson with a group of bikers who were protesting helmet laws by not wearing helmets.

Troopers say Contos hit his brakes and the motorcycle fishtailed. The bike spun out of control, and Contos toppled over the handlebars. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Troopers say Contos would have likely survived if he had been wearing a helmet.

That's why we have a court system. You have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. If we lived in a world run by popular opinion, Earth would still be thought of as flat.
