I guess I shouldn't have used the word evidence, as obviously if there was actual evidence that would be a huge news story. I suppose I should say indications, from cave paintings showing what appears to be a space man, to UFO sightings and the accounts of abductees, and so on, there's a lot to suggest that we were visited. I'm no UFO nut, I haven't done any research but even if there wasn't even a scrap of possible evidence I would still conclude there had to be more life in the universe than us. The conditions for life surely exist on some of the billions of planets in our galaxy, and that's only one of many galaxies. It would be ludicrous to insist or believe we are the only intelligent life forms in such a vast cosmos.

I didn't call you [MERIT]: I said I wasn't having a [MERIT]-style discussion with you about why I believe there's life in the universe other than ours. I know about SETI: if they didn't think there was a chance of there being life out there they'd shut that thing down, wouldn't they? Sure they even think it's possible life might exist on Europa, and life may have existed on Mars at one point. I can't see why you, or anyone else, would totally dismiss the possibility when the parameters of the search are so immense that there is no way it could be discounted as being futile.

I'm almost certain that the rare earth hypothesis is wrong and life does indeed spring up elsewhere around the universe, galaxy, and maybe even solar system. The point is there's no trace of any attempt to communicate, radio waves of any sort, or any sort of Dyson Spere type of megastructures. If the reasonable assumption is that humanity is not a one off the lack of evidence of our extraterrestrial cohorts suggests once they reach a certain point in technological advancement they soon die.

There's other theories. What I'm saying isn't indisputed or rock solid but it's the conclusion that strikes me as the most likely. My assumption is we're following the same course and it sure seems like it.
