I think it is, by it's nature, a very difficult thing to consider what to feel about the police and the military. At least if you're being realistic about it.

On one hand, cops and soldiers do actually keep us safe. That is not up for debate. On the other hand, you also know that most cops and soldiers are going to serve their government, no matter if it asks them to do good or "evil". The police and the military are not inherently a moral entity. They are merely lackeys that will do good if commanded to do so, but also the opposite with equal conviction.

Then there's abuses of power and such, but that's peanuts in the big picture (which sounds like I don't think it matters, but that is not the case).

Back to the offensive part. Went so far as to capitalize the word zero.

Every single person who is a cop or serving in the military has maybe a mother, a father, sisters, brothers, a spouse, kids, close friends, cousins, comrades, etc.

Let's say there's 50,000 rotten cops roaming the streets. Do you have ZERO sympathy for the other 95% of them out there doing their job?

The vast majority of the military are folks trained to follow orders - no questions asked. The vast majority of them are decent people. I'll have ZERO sympathy when Dick Cheney dies.

That's the problem. They follow orders like brainless twats, regardless of the morality of the orders.

Murder is wrong, unless you have a badge or are told to do so by someone in a fancy suit, right?

Killing one person is murder. Killing thousands is war. Why is one wrong and the other deemed acceptable?
