Actually, they don't celebrate birthdays at all. That includes giving AND receiving presents.

I know some Jehova's witnesses, but I try not to discuss religion with them. Either way, you wouldn't know they were Jehova's witnesses unless they or someone else told you. They are pretty much like "regular" protestant christians in that most of them (that I know) seem to have a very relaxed relationship with their religion. For example, they swear and get drunk like the rest of us.

All I know about their beliefs is they believe heaven can only hold so many people and that Jehova's witnesses are eligible for gettin' in there .. and then I think they don't believe in hell, but rather that when you die you go to Gehenna(?) which is a place (city) where it's not nice to be for eternity but I don't think you're being tormented by demons.

Someone might have to correct me here, but that's what I think I know

In Arabic we have something called "Jehannam" that means Hell. But I think the difference is that they stay in hell and there's no purgation in the afterlife that can save you and take to heaven (where we get usually tormented by demons)

And I've heard about Jehova's witnesses being the only ones eligible to go to heaven ... and that's why they have to save us all.

I'm not religious, i respect those who are and i believe it is possible there is some sort of "higher power" watching over us and an afterlife ect but i chose not to follow any religion simply because i think it has more negatives than positives.

You are correct in saying that they don’t believe in hell. And they believe only 144,000 will receive a place in heaven, according to the book of Revelation in the Bible.

However, they do not believe that humans have a soul that survives independent of the body, and so when humans die, they believe that the “soul” dies as well. They don’t go anywhere, they simply cease to exist. But, they also believe in a resurrection that will occur after “Armageddon”. The “Gehenna” you speak of is symbolic, not literal. It represents permanent death. Those who go to “Gehenna” will not be resurrected.

That’s it in a nutshell anyhow.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. That makes more sense to me than the typical catholic hell that I'm mostly used to.

The 144,000 are of God's annointed (or chosen) to rule with Jesus in Heaven during the thousand year reign, after the wicked are destroyed on earth. During this time mankind will grow to perfection, the Earth will be made a paradise.

I'd talk more but that gets into explaining a pretty lengthy and I don't want to come off as preachy to anyone.
