Default Is it just me, or does heaven sound like a really horrible place?

I mean think about it, the more you ask a Christian what heaven will be like, the more repulsive the very idea becomes.

First there's the obvious stuff, the belief that there is no sex in heaven, or even gender, we will all have christ like bodies, whatever that means. I guess we all turn into mini Jesus's or something. We probably won't even be able to tell each other apart but thankfully god will make us too stupid to care because that's the great kinda guy he is.

And the reason there is no marriage in heaven is because we will have no time to mantain a relationship other than with god who we will worship 24/7 for all eternity because his ego requires it. Hooray.

People say our time on earth is a test, but then there's some Christians who think we will forget everything about our earthly existance when we go to heaven, which basically makes our existance on earth entirely pointless. And since it's our memories that make us who we are, we will no longer have our identities or any hint of individuality whatsoever.

And what about the memories of love ones who are no longer with us?

Well here's something wonderful to know, courtesy of yahoo answers.

"God takes away the memories of family members who are in Hell so you won't know about them"

Wow, what a d*ck.

PRAISE THE LORD!

...

Sersiously, THIS is what these people are devoting their entire lives for? So basically you can't go to heaven without being completely brainwashed first, so how is it any better than just plain dying? YOU are not going to heaven. Because while god loves you just the way you are, he won't be satisfied until he makes you into a clone of himself.

And of all the things to lambast Christians for, this is the number one reason they scare the living sh*t out of me. How could someone describe heaven the way I have, and then say "It's gonna be so wonderful, I can't wait."

Yeah, eternal life as a brainwashed, neverending buttkisser or burning in hell forever. Thanks for the options god.

My christain friends have a very simplistic view on the whole "What happens when you go to heaven". They think that the bad part of you will somehow be "removed", but that wouldn't doing so completely change who you once were? I really don't think I can comprehend this sort of thing, maybe that's a good thing?

I always wondered this about 'heaven' too. The thought of losing all of our memories, our identities, our experiences we had on Earth seems like a really depressing concept to me. Like loose_lips said, wouldn't removing the 'bad' part of us, or removing our 'sins' from us completely change our identity and who we are? Everything we do on Earth, whether it be good or 'sinful' makes up the person we are today. We've grown from our actions, learnt from our mistakes, made plenty of memories whether they be pleasant or unpleasant. The idea of swiping the slate clean seems to make our lives on Earth be so pointless and makes the idea of heaven pretty depressing, IMO.

Some Christians say you will forget of your existance here but you will remember your love ones, which in typical Christian fashion, makes no damn sense.

Dosen't god justify allowing so much pain and suffering in the world because it helps us grow to become better people? Ok then so wouldn't that mean taking away all memories of that stuff, you know, render it completely f*cking pointless?

The short answer to that is yes, yes it would.

In all honesty I don't even look forward to an existance without suffering, I really don't.

Because without it, what would you have? No heroes, no accomplishments, no triumph because there are no obstacles to overcome. Stories would have no conflict, art would have no purpose, life would have no lessions to teach us and the only music genre that will continue to thrive is christian rock.

Life would be boring and meaningless. So call me a believer in the whole yin & yang theory. Suffering and pain brings balance to life, it makes us not take things for granted, it makes the good things in life more rewarding, and it makes our accomplishments that much more meaningful.

And why there's so many people looking forward to god f*cking that up so they can spend eternal life in heaven without their memories, personalities or even sexual identity because it all gets in the way of worshiping their god nonstop to the end of time, I will never know. Some people are just freaking insane.

any worthwhile christian i've met (one of my best friends is ordained) have never given a crap about another person's beliefs. those who try to convince others of the 'right' way are usually trying to convince themselves they're right by getting everyone else to agree with them. this is not specific to any religion either my 'free thinking' conspiracy theorist friend is by far the most narrow minded and judgmental person i know.

seriously if i get everyone i know to start calling poop a rose will it start smelling sweet?

to think that heaven would operate along the same physical aspects of our current existence with all the 'good' stuff and none of the 'bad' strikes me as an incredibly naive and childish ideal.

I don't see how this really has anything to do with what I'm talking about.

i don't see how generalizations about a religion based on a horrible stereotype has to do with much of anything either besides spreading more ignorance or an attempt at garnering attention.

which one are you?

Oh thank god, for a moment there I thought you were NOT gonna be a condescending douche. Thank you for never disappointing me.

I said "some" christians didn't I? I'm sure you noticed that and.... well of course you did, but acknowledging that would get in the way of being a self righteous twat accusing me of generalizing a whole group of people when I'm obviously only referring to a specific kind of person, wouldn't it?

Thanks a lot, captain jackass.

Also, I think this is a pretty worthy topic, I'm gonna be mad if it gets closed just because of you being a stupid prick who willingly ignores any point I try to make.
