Your point that people with a mental illness can't possibly post on a message board?

nah, wasnt my point

when someone says about someone with a mental health illness theres an image that comes to mind. that image isnt someone functional enough to post on a forum. that guy im picturin is 10x less functionin than the ppl here who have their mental illnesses or whatevre

thats why it directly followed my posts about levels of mental health. adhd isnt in the same class as retardation.

So then your image of what it means to have a mental illness is wrong. Also, you don't have to be that highly functioning to post on a message board.

it wasnt an obective statement. i thought that much was pretty clear but i guess not so consider this clarification

as for the 2nd part, i dont think i ever said that. you might be confused and it doesnt change anythin i think or believe. my initial thoughts of someone with a mental illness isnt someone finctional enough to post on somewhere like here

In his defense you don't do a very good job at explaining yourself, butthead. I'm just speaking for myself here but I can understand maybe half of your posts, most of which consist of unfair, inaccurate generalizations that disregard the input of people who know what they're talking about. Maybe take the time and put some effort into writing sentences that make sense if you want to be taken seriously.

you can take me however ya want, so can others, wont bother me. i just clarified for this guy so now he knows and hopefully you do too

Fair enough if you don't care how you're taken. But I'm still not sure I or anyone else really get your point.

You said there are degrees of mental illness but then that someone you would consider mentally ill wouldn't be capable of posting on a forum. For the most part, what is and isn't a mental illness isn't up for debate. Psychology and Psychiatry are very new fields of science and we're still learning. Not long ago women were thrown in psych wards because they were considered hysterical. Obviously, that's not a real mental illness as much as it is sexism. However that doesn't change the fact that Schizophrenia is as much of a mental illness as a Personality Disorder. The extremity of the symptoms and your opinion of either has nothing to do with it. I get your point that people sometimes exaggerate their problems or claim to have illnesses for whatever reason(s) but trivializing those problems or illnesses that are still very real for other people is just... lowly.

butthead aka 216 12-16-2013 02:10 AM

again im not sayin that someone with a mental illness cant post on a message board. but those mental illnesses arent as serious which is evident by the fact that they are functional enough to use a message board and assuming they can understand logic, reasoning, sarcasm, etc. thats my point with that. because like i was sayin there are different levels of functionality with mental health... some are hardly even illnesses or whatever u wanna call it, its just a label to describe certain behaviors, which are sometimes used as an excuse to act like a jerk.

well.... yea it does actually. cause thats what im talkin about lol. the whole gist of this is that yes, many many things qualify under the broad umbrella terms of 'mental illness/disorded/health' but some are indeed worse conditions than others
