And any notion of 'prevention of masturbation' is just absurd.
You simply cannot ignore its origins either. There's absolutely nothing which suggests that it has "evolved" over time in large parts of the middle east and Africa where the practice is rampant purely for religious reasons (including the removal of the clitoris). This to me is just disregarding of the rights and individual of a child. They are not the property of their parents. I do hope that those who did have their foreskin removed think twice before subjecting anyone else through the procedure in the future.

I don't really understand how calling it a cultural norm is repulsive to you. I wasn't even making a comment on whether it's good or bad with that statement, I was just saying I think that it's more of a cultural thing and less of a religious thing. And as I said, I'm speaking of America as an American. I am sure it's not the case for everyone but I'd bet the majority of parents don't circumcise children for religious reasons here. Like you said, 'it runs in the family' probably takes precedence and it's very common here.
When I think about it,circumcision is a pretty weird thing. But I was circumcised and don't hate my parents for it and I'm glad I am.
