When people think you're a pedophile, then perhaps it's time to stop and take stock of what it is you want out of life.

That's different from the meaning of life, isn't it? What you make of your own life and why we have life in the first place are two different things.

But you've obviously thought about the subject, and have a better understanding of yourself for it. I don't care whether someone has faith that life is controlled by a God, or faith that life doesn't have any higher meaning beyond that which we endow it with, I just think that the act of examining life in itself is an important journey that every person should make; even if that journey might take us all towards different destinations, those destinations are really all the same, just with different names on the "welcome" signs.

Edit: So, basically, I don't care what you have faith in, just HAVE FAITH IN SOMETHIIIIING!

Yes, I think we do. We may hate it at times but it's necessary.

And I had two years of military school to make me despise authority, but I still recognize that evolution and thousands/millions of years of human/pre-human cultural history have left people with a desire to be led by a... higher power.

I don't think it's a desire to be led so much as a desire to be safe. We agree there should be an authority that takes from us the freedom to f.ex steal or to kill other people. The downside is, if we kill or steal - that authority might get us. The upside is, they should also get whoever kills us or steals from us and knowing that instills an incentive for people not to do those things.

When authorities break down and people get opportunistic, things often get out of hand and people are victimized.

Well, apparently he was so wasted that he unknowingly spray painted some sexually suggestive things near a school (possibly two if my memory serves me correctly), which is a bit different from minding your own business and trying not to make eye contact with eight-year-olds out of paranoia.
