But think of it for a second; it's a very common thing that people say, that children are necessary to take care of the elderly, but so rarely does that actually happen. I'm not telling you you're absolutely wrong but there's a chance that the logic is tragically flawed.

It's a choice whether you want kids or not. What's an ideal lifestyle decision for one may not be the same for someone else. Frankly I don't want kids , but can't alter the fact i do.

Good point. I'm too much like my old man so it's probably a good thing i never see my kid..................patience not a strong point etc

Yep. I'm a total c*nt in real life so wouldn't want to project that attitude onto a kid

I know I'm not absolutely wrong. That's why I replied. In any case, Jans only said it's "likely" to extend your life. Certainly not definite. And it's not just being taken care of - it's also having a family around who connects you to the world in ways that you wouldn't be otherwise. You don't seem to want to believe it, but there are many cases of people treating their kids well, resulting in the kids truly loving their parents and helping give them happy long lives.
