Sexual Harrassment

Hi boys and girls. Today I want to talk about sexual harassment.

Now you all know I'm attention seeking, but I do have a big problem with unwanted sexual harassment. The last 3 days I've had labourers in trucks learing and cat calling, a guy in a truck staring at me non stop as the bus was waiting at the lights and today an old man sat down right beside me at the bus stop asking me questions, staring and trying to touch me and put his arm around me. I did not encourage this at all. I felt so uncomfortable and am really sick of it. I've had a guy physically stalk me after asking me heaps of personal questions when I was 16 and had a guy in a car cat call and literally stalked me to town following the bus I was in. The most frightening was when I had a car load of guys turn around after seeing me and drove along by me slowly as I was walking, making obscene and sexual comments. I ended up hiding in the dairy on the end of my street. They stayed for ages and were waiting for me to come back down. I was so scared, I felt like they were going to throw me in their car and do who knows what. I managed to grab a guy walking the same way and asked him to walk me to my house. We went past the men in the car who watched me like a hawk and I got into my home quickly and I heard them drive off.

Has anyone else been sexually harassed too? Do you think cat calling is offensive? Have you ever cat called someone yourself?

I am making this thread because I'm fed up of being hassled. Is there any way that we could help change the attitudes of these people? I have heard a lady say she handed out cards telling them if they thought she was attractive could they say so respectfully or not say anything at all.

Yeah, I think she's known you for nearly 9 years though! Shame on her.

Well, nothing like you described, but I've hollered out of a car like an idiot a few times when I was younger.

RoxyRollah 08-05-2014 05:26 AM

Personally the quickest way to end up in a fist fight with me is to hiss at me like I am a cat, dog, hampster, or rabbit.. I have no issue with men stopping me in the street and saying hey you are pretty, that's happened a couple times, and twice from women. But don't hiss at me... I have been manhandeled in Morrocco, by a some guy at an internet cafe. I was 17, and the ******* who thought it was a good idea, outweighed me by 100 lbs, now I am not saying I won, but he damn sure knew he was in a fight.

The Batlord 08-05-2014 05:28 AM

Hissed?

Yeah, that's how they get down, down here. It's mostly Spanish men, and black men that hiss....

The Batlord 08-05-2014 05:38 AM

As in, walking down the street, right foot, left foot, right foot, left foot-

"HOLY **** IT'S A ****ING SNA- oh never mind it's just a creepy perv."

That kind of a hiss?

RoxyRollah 08-05-2014 05:40 AM

Que?

RoxyRollah 08-05-2014 05:41 AM

Vanilla, get some mace boo. That will stop any sort of harrassement for at least 5 minutes...

I mean, do they sound like a ****ing snake when they hiss at you or is "hiss" just kind of a euphemism?

Naw, just get Roxy to send you a really gnarly looking pic of an autopsy and keep it in your purse. When some douche hassles you just pull it out, show it to him, and stare him directly in the eyes with a blank expression. He won't know what the **** is going on but he sure as hell won't want to hit on you anymore.

RoxyRollah 08-05-2014 05:44 AM

no they sound like a snake, and it is also a euphemism....

Handing out those cards, I don't think would be very effective. The type of guys catcalling just think that they are giving compliments. When they get handed those cards will most likely just call her a bitch telling her it was just a nice compliment and move on.

I was trying to find her video but you could just check out the channel cards against harassment since it's a bunch of smaller videos. Apparently she makes a break through with some guys but I feel like she has a higher failure rate than she's leading on.

Also if you don't believe the hissing Batlord it goes down in this video.

Also stumbled across this other video

Those lines at the end are just as bad lol.
"I want to lick your mind."

Look at the guy saying it though, it's like he wants to kill you first, crack open your skull and literally do that with your dead body.

Had a guy at the bus stop tell me he wanted to cut out my eyes and put them in a jar so they could follow him wherever he went. That was the creepiest pick up line I have ever heard..

djchameleon 08-05-2014 05:53 AM

What a smooth charmer!

RoxyRollah 08-05-2014 06:10 AM

I know right.

djchameleon 08-05-2014 06:17 AM

He should have topped it off whistling "Jeeper Creepers"

RoxyRollah 08-05-2014 06:21 AM

A guy wolf whistled at me this morning and I didn't know which car it came from, so I shouted 'YA FECKIN LOSER!!!' Problem solved.

You sure told him. I am getting tired of the girls pulling next to me and showing me their tits. I don't want to see your excess fat bags, jesus ladies.

So that was you? Here I am paying you a compliment and you have the audacity to get offended. They just don't make women like they used to.

Carpe Mortem 08-05-2014 10:20 AM

Yeah gotta be honest, I look at catcalling as a compliment and think its kinda stupid to get offended over it, I'd daresay even bitchy or vain to make a big deal out of it. Stalking, or shouting 'nice tits!' or something, is another story. It becomes less a flirtatious compliment and more a disrespect of personal boundaries.

RoxyRollah 08-05-2014 10:43 AM

i dont mind a whistle now lets not get too crazy but a hiss...seriously?

WWWP 08-05-2014 02:48 PM

I don't get as heated about cat-calling as I do creepy staring or blatant comments, but it does annoy me to no end. It's an objectifying action made safely and without repercussions from behind a car door that serves no real purpose.

FETCHER. 08-05-2014 02:53 PM

Everyone like a wolf whistle now and again, ofcourse. Do not do it on no morning I feel like I could rip your throat out tho.

I have seriously never really experienced any sexual harassment, I'm a really laid back person irl but have quite an aggressive sense of humour which leads people to actually believe I am aggressive. Which I think firstly puts people off. If someone is hanging all over me and annoying me I'm generally too nice to say something but I would seriously over emphasis that I didn't see them in that way. Like 'aww you're a great guy too BUDDY' they generally take the hint from me. Friendzoneeeed.

WWWP 08-05-2014 02:56 PM

I had a guy pass me on the street once say "you're so cute I want to eat your face off."

RoxyRollah 08-05-2014 02:57 PM

did he know the eyeball man?

DwnWthVwls 08-05-2014 06:39 PM

I feel like there is a very fine line here that is worth discussing.

Guy is hot and you find him attractive: "thank you" *winkie face*
Guy is ugly/not your type/etc: "get away loser/creep/weirdo".

Thoughts? Are there times when a compliment/catcall can be an innocent compliment without offending you(regardless of attraction level)?

I will watch these, but yeah I doubt she will make much of a difference.

I'm going to buy some pepper spray to carry around in my handbag so I can just say "would you like me to spray your eyes with that harassment?".

I'm a bit scared to do that, they might pull over and give me the bash.

I can handle whistling or cat calling but blatant pervy stares, rude sexual comments, stalking and feeling me up is a big issue for me. It's fine to let me know I'm attractive to you but there is a line that can be crossed.

That's exactly right, it's pretty bad when you have guys making comments from cars when you're in a school uniform. I mean seriously?

I wonder how successful it really is for these individuals shouting comments or whistling at women. Do they ever get lucky from it? Seems doubtful.

In the situation you've listed above, I find offensive no matter what they look like. Is cat calling really ever innocent? I mean these guys are objectify women because they want to bone them right? If a man said to me, "hi, I just want to let you know that I find you attractive" I would smile and say thank you. The best thing a guy could do is come up to me, ask me if I'd like to meet him for coffee and be honest about what he wants from me.

I think a lot of the time cat calling etc is due to either immaturity or peer pressure from their workmates/friends. There may be guys who are actually respectful to women in daily life but get into situations where they are expected to join in with their friends. I'm not an expert, I don't know what they are thinking when they do it.

GuD 08-05-2014 09:56 PM

I don't get why a guy would think that's a compliment. It's just trashy and lame and the types of guys that do that kinda **** aren't genuinely trying to compliment anyone. It's just a way for them to get away with being creepy pervs. **** that noise.
