If you’re a left wing political party deriving a substantive amount of your vote from newly naturalized immigrants than it matters a lot because the rate of immigration will substantially change the % of the population in the years to come.

The current % of immigrants as a percentage is on par with the 19th century and it is projected to well surpass the historic level in the decades to come, to reach close to 20% of the population.

Why does this matter, because in the United States the Democratic Party has completely lost the white working class vote, the group that they are supposed to traditionally represent.

In the last three presidential elections, the Democratic candidate lost among white working-class (non-college) voters by an average of 22 points. The worst performance came in 2012 when Obama lost this group—once the bulwark of the Democratic coalition—by a staggering 26 points (62-36)
the

Democrat’s deficit with working-class whites was the key reason for the G.O.P. landslide in 2010, and could hand the Republicans another big win in the upcoming mid-terms. Despite their declining numbers, white working-class voters will be an ever-present threat to progressives in elections and to progressive governance as long as so many remain so hostile to the party.

The Challenge of the White Working Class Vote | Roundtable on the White Working Class

and they make up for that with the Hispanic vote:

Which will substantially increase in the coming years.

And to why the rate of immigration matters…

In short, the Democrats have ensured an electoral strategy that will make them the dominant party in years to come, a trend we’re seeing arising in other western countries. It is by all means a brilliant strategy, but it does come at a price for the culture and wages of the working class, which brings me to point 2.

It is common knowledge amongst economists that immigration places a downward pressure on the wages of unskilled labour. George Borjas is the most respected immigration economist in the United States,

George J. Borjas has been described by both Business Week and the Wall Street Journal as “America’s leading immigration economist”. He is the Robert W. Scrivner Professor of Economics and Social Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is the recipient of the 2011 IZA Prize in Labor Economics. Professor Borjas is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a Research Fellow at IZA. (I’ve read one of his books)

And he states…

The immigration surplus of $35 billion comes from reducing the wages of natives in competition with immigrants by an estimated $402 billion a year, while increasing profits or the incomes of users of immigrants by an estimated $437 billion.

The biggest winners from immigration are owners of businesses that employ a lot of immigrant labor and other users of immigrant labor. The other big winners are the immigrants themselves.

Or…

concluded that immigration reduced wages for the poorest 10 percent of Americans by about 7.4 percent between 1980 and 2000 with even larger effects for workers with less than 20 years of experience.

Immigration and the American Worker | Center for Immigration Studies

http://www.fairus.org/docs/poverty_rev.pdf

This reality has led to America’s most notable liberal economist Paul Krugman to state…

Immigration is an intensely painful topic for a liberal like myself, because it places basic principles in conflict. Should migration from Mexico to the United States be celebrated, because it helps very poor people find a better life? Or should it be condemned, because it drives down the wages of working Americans and threatens to undermine the welfare state?

http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/200...n-immigration/

The general consensus is that it does drive down wages for unskilled labourers, common sense really, if you’re a forklift driver at a shipping warehouse and you have a huge pool of labour willing to do your job for less your SOL.

Bernie Sander isn’t an idiot! And yes I have money to save jacka$$, I got a degree and climbed my way out of the trailor park.

Actually when it comes to economic policy Trump is closer to Sanders on big economic issues like free trade. Guaranteed Hillary will sign the TPP (She’s bought and paid for)

The civil war going on in the Republican Party is largely a repudiation of the Reaganomics, Trump’s economic policies are more in line with Nixon and Eisenhower, which is why people like Paul Ryan hate him.

All that being said, I don't trust him, and would stick with Hillary.

Well you weren’t too kind to me with your comments above, so I will simply say this is the stupidest F’n thing I’ve ever heard someone say, that’s it’s not worthy of a response, considering its importance dwarfs all the other issues discussed above by a mile.

Yeah, unless he's suffered a traumatic brain injury, HHBH is most definitely not an SJW. I honestly chuckled when I read this.

And what does that tell ya? The country is changing. The Democrats are keeping pace with the change. The GOP is desperately trying to hold onto the white working class non college voters. That and older white angry voters who feel "their" country is being taken away from them - while conveniently forgetting that their ancestors took over the USA via mass genocide.

**** the un-educated white working class who are pissing and moaning about the ills of "their" country. **** the angry old white people who are pissing and moaning about losing "their" country.

Ah, I'm just a disenchanted liberal, who likes critiquing the left because it needs to be critiqued.

I can't stand the fact that the left, which use to stick up for the working man has been hijacked by politically correct social justice warriors, cultural marxists & internationalists. It drives me nuts!!!

...so I end up labeling my opponents SJW's, It brings me a sense of happiness.

I'm quoting myself just so it stays on the most recent page.

Define a social justice warrior for me. I just want to see if I fit the "so called" profile.

Your too old to be a social justice warrior. SWJ's are the authoritarian left who were raised on political correctness by Marxist professors on University campuses.

Everything to them is either racist, sexist, homophobic or islamophobic, and should be banished from public sphere and denied freedom of speech.

Basically if it was 1933 Ukraine, they would be the young starry eyed commissars dragging you off to the gulags because you said the wrong thing.

Pretty sure that HHBH is older too. Take away Chula's age and see if he fits though, I'm curious.
