Why was it ever immoral in the first place? Why was it ever moral to harm someone for mixing cloth or crops?

I wonder if people glaze over and speak in a monotone when reciting **** like:

GOD IS KING THE MIGHTIEST OF ALL MONARCHS GOD IS KING THE MIGHTIEST OF ALL MONARCHS GOD IS KING THE MIGHTIEST OF ALL MONARCHS.

And then the drool starts and they have to stop to slurp.

Still, though, all the other weird laws in the bible are assanine, and to me it just seems like the holy books (including the quran) are just codifying their culture as it changes - justifying weird rituals retrospectively with religion.
