Water vapor is the most abundant greenhouse gas

Rice paddies? I knew China was to blame.

Methane is like a magnifying glass but it’s the volume of CO2 and the insane cyclical unforgiving nature of our old pal water that’s really tearing us a new anus.

People are to blame and they got the most. Every exhalation exacerbates the problem but that can’t be it because:

THAT’S RACIST!!!

The Trump Admin continues to roll out its policy of trashing the planet for a quick buck and letting our grandchildren suffer the consequences. From today's BBC news:-

Quote:

The US federal government has announced an overhaul of the way it enforces the Endangered Species Act, a law credited with preventing countless extinctions.

Trump officials say the new plan will reduce regulations, but environmental groups warn it will "crash a bulldozer" through the landmark 1973 legislation.

The plan removes automatic protections for threatened species and allows economic factors to be considered.

Critics say the new rules will speed extinction for vulnerable wildlife.

Ten state attorneys general have announced plans to sue over the new regulation.

The Endangered Species Act, which Republican President Richard Nixon signed into law in 1973, protects more than 1,600 plant and animals species today, and is credited with saving the California condor, the Florida manatee, the gray whale and grizzly bear among others.

The new rules, which go into effect in 30 days, will for the first time allow economic factors to be considered when weighing what protections should be provided to vulnerable species.

Under current law, wildlife management decisions are only allowed to be based on science and "without reference to possible economic or other impacts of determination".

Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, a former oil lobbyist, announced the change on Monday, saying the change allowed the law to "ensure it remains effective in achieving its ultimate goal - recovery of our rarest species," he said.

"An effectively administered act ensures more resources can go where they will do the most good: on-the-ground conservation."
^ The real damage is in the legislation, although almost equally nauseating is the way the policy is dressed up as the reverse. In this case, "less legislation is going to mean better protection". This is comparable to another argument the Republicans favour, "We can only reduce gun violence by increasing the number of guns available."

A Canadian company says it has found a way to reuse plastic by converting it into fuel. But one environmental group cautions that the approach doesn’t truly solve the plastics problem.

Doesnt solve the fuel exhaust problems either.

Lisnaholic 08-16-2019 06:03 AM

Yes, that process looks like it might help by giving a financial incentive to collect existing plastic, but it's not a magic solution to everything. Also, right at the beginning, the white-hat guy says, "Plastic is just like oil and it came out of the ground at one time the same way." Surely that's not true at all?!

Anyway thanks, mindfulness, for putting something optimistic in this thread; it needs all the good news it can get! Here's a very neat idea that can improve the delivery/storage of renewable energy:-

Plastic is made from oil ;)

Nice simple but educational video.

Nice how they explained how refineries work.

When we run out of oil we’re going to be so ****ed.
