everyone in the region hates the Kurds, from Turkey to Iran to Syria to both the Sunni and Shia elements of Iraq.

Why? Cause when the English and French partitioned the middle East into countries, they did so haphazardly. And many conflicting ethnic groups got lumped into a single country, like Iraq with the Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites.

The Kurds are just one of those unlucky ethnic/cultural groups with a strong national and cultural identity, but no country. They are divided between turkey, Iraq, Syria, Iran. And they are loyal to their Kurdish identity and want a Kurdish state. Thus they are naturally treated as subversive in every country which they currently reside.

So basically they’re just killing them for being a minority group because that’s how Muslims roll. Got it. Not talking **** on Islam though. Great religion. It’s just some of them. Wait... what country is that where the Muslims don’t act like ****ing halfwit barbarians again?

Saddam also repressed the Shia majority and privileged the Sunni minority, in Iraq. The Baath party was made up of Sunni Iraqis.

That's why we had the insurgents during the 2nd Iraq war, which eventually turned into ISIS. After Bush toppled the Baath regime and deposed Saddam, they made the Baath party illegal and barred any members of the party from participating in the new govt. This meant a decisive shift from Sunnis to Shiites. The insurgents were as such Sunni rebels, as were ISIS.
