I assumed you both favored Bernie. His stance that "Open Borders? That's a Koch Bros. scheme" - do you think he's wrong there? Or am I missing something? (or did you not support Bernie?)
|
I never identified as a Bernie supporter, I saw him as the least evil. As far as I can judge from a one-liner I don't agree with him on that
|
Alright. Thanks.

Supported Bernie 100%
Sometimes pissed of that he’s not a real commie but yeah |
Open borders, week-long citizenship process max, free education programs (ESL, degrees, trade school, etc), rights for every human in this country (can't believe I even have to say that ffs). Punish those paying slave wages to immigrants that creates supposed job scarcity to the point of offsetting the value increase of the larger market that immigrants bring.
Larger legislative changes, potentially UBI, could offset the poverty conditions that induce crimes of desperation. Then the rest of the scary criminals and rapists will prove themselves to be those things and can be handled accordingly. A larger improvement of our legal system could make that less of a death sentence as well. |

Most of this seems reasonable, but I'm curious how Open Borders is inherently beneficial. Not to sound like OH here but what's so great about America? I'm looking at it like this - Nations (in theory) are only a set of cultural and legal norms. And while I do think nations certainly rig the economy, why would you advocate for open borders as opposed to better trade policies with other nations. And to play devil's advocate here, why ask Gutamaleans to come here rather than creating the conditions for them to be prosperous in their home country? |
Open borders doesn’t mean driving them here. It just means if for whatever reason they arrive it’s cool. Maybe they wanna see the Grand Canyon.
