In all seriousness though if that is the case maybe you should go to some DSA meetings just to get more used to socializing.

This is good advice. Even if it's not DSA, if you've got a problem with social interactions, the best way to deal with it and improve the situation is to meet up with people who are either likeminded or share a mutual interest. Doing so will ensure you always have something to talk about and things aren't awkward.

It's the first advice I give to interns who are going into college and intern at the company I work at. Join a club or group at college that interests you. Joining the radio club at my college did wonders for me. I discovered a bunch of different music and I drastically improved my social skills. And I learned how to be a radio DJ on top of it.

The best advice I can give about conversation making in general - learn to be a good listener and ask pertinent questions of people. For 90% of people, there's nothing they'd rather do than talk about themselves to someone who seems interested. And you pull that off, they'll remember you and you might just make a friend. And hell, they might ask you questions too.

There must be a D&D club or something near you that you could join Bats, no?

Lol it's not quite that bad these days but a legit reason before inflation exploded for me wanting a car was actually getting involved in political and/or volunteer work. I'm currently living off about 9k saved up for that reason.

And me and my nerdy bud are currently going to a weekly board game night that a comic book store for social reasons.

Agreed. It's easier said than done, but it helps. It helped me.

In my late 20s, I joined a curling club, playing in a social league. It was tons of fun. The game itself is social in nature.

After being out of hockey for ten years, I joined a league made up of guys from work. It is a great way to network.

Good work on building the savings.

High school kids here have a number of volunteer hours they need to complete before graduation. Is that a thing anywhere else?

You're drinking tonight, aint ya Batty?

I'm happy for ya that you're actively trying to improve. Fighting for what you believe in politically is great, but self-improvement is even better.

What you really need is a group of nerdy metalhead friends who listen to Slayer and play board games. $20 says that group of people you're playing with don't listen to Slayer with any regularity.

9k? You could've been had a car by now. Don't burn through that **** and end up with nothing to show for it bro I've done that before

SGR 08-06-2022 11:29 PM

Speaking of cars, I just paid off my Mercedes - will be getting a title in the mail soon.

Next time, I think I'll just buy a beater. Since I work from home now.

On the one hand I'm kinda tired of my car but on the other hand it's literally how I make all my money rn as I am technically unemployed. I showed back up to my job I don't usually go to and apparently it was the last day the temps were working there and I had no idea. I was expecting to get fired individually not go out as a team.

Yeah I was hoping inflation was gonna be short term but I might have to bite the bullet.

That's nice though Charles. Getting a car seems very much worth the trouble. I relate to isolation being a baseline, fighting against that is like a constant swim upstream for me.
