He also was the guy that got out of Afghanistan. And while I can recognize that it's a humanitarian crisis over there right now, and we can do more, it was the right call for the U.S. Because no amount of time there was going to prevent this.

I remember that. Our government is struggling to pick up the people we left behind, like the interpreters. Hopefully they can make it here.

I don't know. I know there was a lot of lobbying to get refugees to neighboring countries. But Russia is a foreign invader; al qaeda is domestic.

Half is better than nothing, surely? I imagine it took a lot to get that one through. What does elph have to say? He's a student isn't he?

I mean that's less than half for most people. Still better than I was expecting he'd do, but he clearly could do better. I will give him partial credit but this isn't a second New Deal by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't know anything about it of course, but I would think that if you have say 30 or even 40 K in student debt, 10K off that is going to be a big help to you?

Sure, and as far as I know we've never gotten any student debt forgiveness at all before, but this is still the least he could do without obviously ignoring the issue and it does nothing to deal with student debt as a continuing problem. Next semester kids will be racking up student loans and the semester after that and the semester after that.
