tonight was the first i have heard of the term. i had thought of this in my head years ago! do you have solipsist meetings?

adidasss: Grade-A hipster, but a stubborn and entertaining hipster, and I have to give him props for that.

trace87: At times he reminds me of sweet_nothing in his earlier days, and at other times he reminds me of CAPTAIN CAVEMAN with a preference to indie as opposed to hardcore.

Dali/Pete:
Two-way tie for my favorite mods.

VEGANGELICA:
If you actually read her entire posts it's pretty hard to dislike her. She's polite and thoughtful, and I enjoy her company, even if I don't enjoy her vegan stance.

Violent & Funky: Just keep on doing what yer doing.

Janszoon: Intelligent and good-natured, but slightly intimidating. Whatever, I like him.

mr. dave: Definitely among my favorite posters. He's smart, looks at things objectively, and is always cool about stuff.

Big3:
His mysterious posting style and often odd and questionable stances/opinions make him probably one of the most entertaining members on the site.

Boards Of Canada: Good to have you.

Arya Stark 08-03-2010 09:19 PM

Dayna and Boo. Love you both.

You know I get this a lot and I still don't get it. Mysterious?

Anyway, thanks for the shout out. I haven't had one in a bit.

*Makes mental note to stop defending boobs in the mod thread.*

I still like you but hey if I have criticisms to make I let them be known, that's the idea of the thread, no asskissing right?

Big3: I don't get him, his method of phrasing is a mystery of science, it's a challenge trying to figure out what he's trying to say, and he's not particularly good at explaining why he likes or dislikes things and his taste in music seems copied and pasted from a Rolling Stone critic.

Missed this one.

I don't think you read Rolling Stone.

And yea, I get the thing about the me not talking a lot about the music I like. I guess I just never felt like I had much to offer the people here by just being another person who likes this or that amongst a sea of this or that. But lately I'm thinking that's just an excuse for my laziness.
I really need to start a journal. I was actually going to do some music tonight, but since I have beer, I might just scrap that and do a journal. I think I've waited long enough to have plenty of material. lol...

you should definitely do that, brutha. i'd read that ****.

Freebase Dali - What a fucking awesome and kind hearted bloke. First guy ever to make me blush with those comments in the picture thread the other day, in the least *** way possible. If I ever happen to find myself in your neck of the woods, or you in mine, I'd definitely take you up on saying you'd like to hang out with me.

Well I guess I'll do one of my own and try not to leave some people out lol

AwwSugar/Amandria - Amandria and I didn't get along well when I first joined, she had a bad impression of me and I had a bad impression of her, but we resolved that and she's definitely (obviously) one of my favorites on MB, because she's a really sweet girl, although she can be rather confrontational at times, her heart's in the right place and she's very fair on all subjects I bring up with her, which are usually my own issues and she always has nice things to say to people, and despite the fact we have rather different music tastes (besides Lady Gaga!) we get on like a damn fire.

NumberNineDream/Eleanor/Melissa - Eleanor was one of the first people to be nice to me on here, and we subsequently pet named each other due to our love of the Beatles. I think she's a wonderful girl, she reminds me of me in a lot of ways, I just wish she were a little more confident in herself, cause I think she's really amazing at a lot of things.

+81/Lucas - I love Lucas. He never has anything really bad to say about anyone and he's always there to listen to me when I have an issue. I love his witty commentary in the shoutbox, and he has excellent taste in punk rock, and Falco too.

Unchained Ballad/Hugo - I also love Hugo. He's got kind of a poncey manner but I think it really suits him, rather than being annoying as it would be for someone else. He's also someone who should be more confident in themselves, he's great. He's great fun in cam chats and is a good sport when I have a giggle at him for his pink shirts. He's also good for an ear when I want to bitch about something. I honestly didn't like him at first, until Bandteacher1 insulted him in the shoutbox inappropriately, and I felt it was very rude so I had to rip bandteacher a new asshole. He's a good looking kid too, with great tastes in post-punk.

Kayleigh/Fanny - I don't imagine anyone could dislike Fanny, she's definitely one of the sweetest people on MB. Our taste in music is definitely not compatible but it doesn't matter because we both love Skins and the Scheme, and I can talk in Scots with her (which is weird, being that I'm from Midwestern America). Definitely a favorite.

Anteater
- Sometimes I think I hate this mother****er, but I think we just like winding each other up and bitching at each other. If we knew each other IRL we'd probably get on fine. He's an okay dude most times.

RVCA
- I don't know much about this kid, he's pretty good looking, but he has some ****ty musical tastes (Linkin Park, rly?) I guess I'll wait till he posts more to really pass judgement on him, but he also seems like an okay dude besides that, I like him now.

Storymilo - I love Story, a lot. Story is so well adjusted for his age it's almost scary. He was one of the first people as well to be nice to me up in this bitch, and I'm glad he was, he's a great kid, very smart and has excellent book and music taste and handles it well when he used to get weird messages from me on drugs. Lulz.

James - James can sometimes come off as a pretentious ****weed, but he's really a sweet kid, he's always open to new music and being that that's something I can't understand, I quite admire him for it. He's really quite open to everything suggestions, and he's really good to talk to on all sorts of subjects, and he's Scottish so that's a plus too.

crash_override
- He's a cool dude, I miss the times he was in the shoutbox because we'd have weird conversations about **** like cheese, and it was somehow very entertaining.

boo boo - yo chill the **** out, son. That's all I'm gonna say

duga - Duga surprised me with his friendliness, he's so damn cool, he should be a total ass but he's not. I admire that

TheCunningStunt/lol Michael - I quite like lol Michael, especially since he doesn't mind that I add an lol to his name every time I type it. He seems like a good kid, and mostly all of his posts entertain me.

Barnard17/Sam I kind of didn't like Sam at the beginning, but now I really like him, he seems so fun, I'd love to party with him, provided he didn't try to wear my dresss.....

Freebase Dali - Jeremy is so damn funny sometimes, I'll never forget the time I made him sing Fernando by Abba for me and he actually did it. Made my life.

tore
- Tore to me, is like the really friendly Bill Nye the Science guy of MB

Glastonelle -
She's gorgeous and has great taste in mostly everything (especially dudes, holla)

bannister
- Bannister is definitely my favorite n00b, she's got probably the best taste on here (only second to mine of course :thumb:)

more later, I promise

:(

I thought I was your whore?

Flower Child 08-05-2010 10:33 AM

I have spent most of my year+ on mb lurking and observing you crazy kids because most of the time I don't have anything interesting to say myself. So behold my shallow judgemental opinions of some of the more pronounced characters of mb.

I'll start with some of the broads.

VEGANGELICA She keeps the old pot stirred around the place with her strong views and arguments about leg shaving and slaughtered pigs and such. She is definitely a strong willed strong minded charismatic woman, and I applaud her for sticking to her guns and what she believes in, especially when it is to the extreme like some of her views are.

Nonsubmissivewife When I first joined the forum I didn't think I liked her because I thought she played up that whole Texas 'Y'all' and 'Hun' type lingo a lot. But getting to know her, I think thats just how she talks. Anyway, I really like the woman and I would love to go to some concerts with her. :D

Tumor Attitude We've briefly argued about Lady Gaga and I decided that I really liked her. (Well I'm pretty sure she's a 'her')

Vanilla Very charming and very pretty. But she does the whole 'look at me, I'm a girl and I like to have sex!' routine a little too often for my taste. And thats probably because I'm a woman. A little is okay, but after a while it just gets tiring. But still, very chraming and very pretty. If I were a man I would probably be fawning all over her.

Awwsugar SUPER SUPER SUPER NICE. I'm pretty sure Mojopinuk is in love with her.

NumberNineDream I don't think we've ever really spoken, but nonetheless I'm intrigued by her. She lives in Lebanon which I find very interesting, and she is great with a camera, and she's got a really naturally pretty, easy way about her.

Kayleigh Like everyone, I can't deny the fact that she is super nice and super cute. Friendly as friendly can get, really. There is not a mean bone in that girls body. But christ what a chatterbox. It'll almost make your head spin. But again, you gotta love her.

Paloma Idon't think I've ever crossed paths with Paloma, but I still have made up my mind that I like her. I really know minimal about her, but she strikes me as one of those girls that is really tough and that could easily kick my ass in a fight. And I've gotten the impression that she dyes her hair alot so everytime I see a post I imagine her to be that one girl off of Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind.
http://www.watchmoviestreaming.com/p...tlessmind1.jpg

Lateralus Its been a long time since I've talked to her, but I find her really cool for the following reasons: she lives in Australia, she's got that Freewheelin Bob Dylan attitide about her, she likes good tv and books and movies, and she sings and plays guitar. Also very pretty in a not-trying-too-hard way.

LoathsomePete 08-05-2010 11:02 AM

Oh I see how it is, I mean it's not like I sent you all those funky electronic albums :(

NumberNineDream 08-05-2010 11:26 AM

^ You're not a broad xD

And we should definitely talk sometime Flower Child. You got one of the best tastes on here, and a very rich Journal.

LoathsomePete 08-05-2010 11:30 AM

I know I just haven't been mentioned on anyone's list except Alfred's for awhile :(

Actually, "y'all" is a big part of my normal speech. I personally think it's one of the best words ever invented, no matter how hick it might sound. "Hun" is a weird one. Don't really say it that often but for some reason it feels natural when I'm posting....never thought about it until you brought it up! :p:

Goblin Tears - One of my favorite posters, if only because the opinions are always on a solid ground. GT's has taken on some of the most notoriously bithcy members of our family here, and held ground.

One of my favorite, under-appreciated posters. No idea about interests or gender, but I still love GT's posts.

In the defense of those concerned - Boo Boo managed to turn a shoutbox compliment into yet another reason to complain about his aesthetic tastes in women being underrepresented in the mainstream.

I told him to stop it, he got annoyed, I spent the next little while purposefully annoying him as much as possible because he was being a tool.

That comment up there? THOROUGHLY DESERVED, AND I'M PROUD OF IT.

I can't believe I didn't notice this until today! Shiz.

Everyone- you're all super nice, for the most part. I haven't run away screaming yet. I was expecting that to happen my first week here.

Seltzer 08-06-2010 04:53 AM

K, I think it's time I wrote about some more people whom I didn't cover in my first post from a year ago:

SATCHMO:
Always strikes me as a cosmopolitan guy who's wise beyond his years. And I appreciate that his tastes stretch back further than most.

Bulldog:
He's a swell guy, and we're into a lot of the same music like Bowie, Nick Cave and the Birthday Party, XTC, Steel Pulse and post-punk in general. He needs to get his brother back on MB :D

Freebase Dali:
Dali's a funny, intelligent, multifarious guy and a great mod. Good at what he does.

Mr. Dave:
He's one of the most level-headed people on MB and I find myself agreeing with nearly everything he says. Not to mention, he's a mine of knowledge when it comes to bass.

Lateralus:
Kate is one of my favourite members and one of the few I've really talked to outside MB. She's extremely nice and agreeable but still stands up adamantly for what she believes in. Someone as awesome as she is shouldn't be so hard on themselves.

LoathsomePete:
Cool guy with a great taste in games - seriously, with tore and Pete on MB, I don't have to feel nerdy when talking about CRPGs :D

CunningStunt:
A characteristic Mancunian, through and through :p: Bit of a similar disposition to lucifer sam I think. I don't mind that he dislikes prog because he loves the Smiths.

VEGANGELICA:
Erica is bat**** crazy but awesome all the same. She really is a delightful person.

Mojopinuk:
I regret that I didn't talk to him much before he became a mod because he's a really humble down-to-earth guy who deserves better than what he's getting.

NumberNineDream:
Cool and quirky girl - I admire her artistic talent.

Anteater:
This guy knows a buttload about music and puts my prog knowledge to shame. I haven't really talked to him about non-music stuff though.

Nonsubmissivewife:
NSW is a another cool gal and I like that she likes Fat Freddy's, the Black Seeds, D'Angelo and BB.

Tuna:
He doesn't post much (like me) but his posts are well thought out and always worth reading.

Unchained Ballad:
Is a well-spoken guy with an interesting taste in music. Also too hard on himself.

James:
I wish I had a music taste like that when I was his age... maybe he's a long lost Scottish relation of jackhammer's?

Paloma:
Paloma is admirably shameless and in fact, probably doesn't give a toss about what I'm saying right now. Sticks to her guns like no other.

And... I'll stop there for now cos I badly need sleep so I'm gonna go to bed and watch some Arrested Development. I've somehow managed to survive this week on 4 hrs sleep a night.

Mojo 08-06-2010 05:49 AM

OK, i have just been back through this thread and i have already done write-ups for NumberNineDream, Lateralus, Anteater, Shizotypic, NSW, TheCellarTapes, Conan, Sidewinder, AwwSugar, Bulldog, Jackhammer, PissMeOff, Urban, RT, Janszoon, 333, Boo Boo, Comus, Kayleigh, Molecules, Alfred, Fasho, Scottsy, Adidasss & Rezz.

At some point i will go back through the ones i have already done as i'm sure some of them could be updated now.

Anyway, here are some that are overdue now. There are definitely some members I have missed out but this is all I have the patience to do right now. Any I have missed will be done another time.

UnchainedBallad
UB has been away various places over the last few weeks and is still away now. However before that he was starting to post more which was great. I would like to see him continue to contribute more around the boards. Clearly a smart guy with a fantastic grasp on the English language. I would like to see him be more confident in his writing, his reviews and frankly every other aspect of his life.

Paloma
Seltzer summed Paloma up well. She sticks to her guns, thats exactly what she does. I feel she can sometimes be very quick to judge and so i may not discuss certain things with her the way i do others here but thats not all that important. A very sweet girl, not afraid to stand up for herself, seems to be very strong and if she is harsh with you it's probably because you were being a ****.

Duga
Not someone i know much about as he doesnt seem to be the type to share too much about who he is here, which is fine. But he does share his music taste and the passion he has for it and that means i will always read whatever he has to say. He was one of our better newbies when he first joined and now he has to be considered one of our better members period.

+81
I dont know why i haven't found as much common ground with this guy in comparison to the other shoutbox lurkers. I really dont have a reason for that as he seems to be very into his music, i dont think he has many boundaries when it comes to writing off entire genres of music and will probably listen to anything, even if just to give it a try. That should be something he and I have in common right there. Anyway, i may not know him too well but he has always seemed to be a decent guy, i dont recall ever disagreeing with him about anything.

Tore
I hardly ever crossed paths will Tore until i became a mod and I regret that now. No disrespect to any of the other mods but i get the feeling that Tore is the hardest working mod. Always willing to help and assist people, forever trying to liven this place up and create more interest in the site. Great mod but seems to be an even better person. He reminds me of certain ultra-smart friends i have who i often cannot understand in any way at all yet it is obvious to me and everyone around me that they are among the nicest people I have ever met.

Freebase
Well, i dont think i have ever mentioned this before but i used to consider Freebase to be a part of this trend of members we had joining up one after the other a while ago who all seemed very similar to me whom i quite frankly wasn't a big fan of. But how wrong could i have been! I definitely misjudged this guy. When we got modded he sent me a congratulatory message that i greatly appreciated and ever since then I have been constantly reminded how incorrect my first impression was. I actually try not to judge people on this forum so easily anymore because of Freebase. Great guy, genuinely does seem to look for ideas about how to improve this forum for its members and seems to be very polite and well spoken. I wish he shared his music taste more though! I know you probably were not aware as i'm not the kind of guy to draw attention to it most of the time but sorry for having you so wrong Freebase!

Seltzer
Pretty much what he said about me. Like Tore, i never seemed to cross paths with Seltzer at all. He was the quiet mod as far as i was concerned. Not really one of the more visible mods. This is not a bad thing, i actually think it's because he gets a long with everyone and no-one ever takes issue with him! A great quality and i'm glad to have begun to interact with him more since I was modded.

LoathsomePete
I usually have time for anything Pete recommends. I probably will like the majority of it too. We arent exactly twins when it comes to music taste but do share a lot of similar interests. Absolutely deserved to be modded when he was and has been such a great addition to this forum.

TheCunningStunt
Can be very blunt, very honest and probably doesnt hold back very often. This kind of attitude will certainly lead to disagreements with some people but for me personally, i like it. I think it's a great quality to have. For some reason i always felt comfortable messing with TheCunningStunt, joking around and even outright insulting but of course in a lighthearted way. To some this may not be a compliment in any way, shape or form but these are the kind of people i get a long with best in real life. I dont like having to censor myself when joking around in fear of it offending someone.

Downwardspiral
Another member who seems to be very honest. He has always been nothing but cool with me personally.

Glastonelle
Don't know much about Glastonelle at all but i felt she was worthy of a mention as i feel she has been among the better newbies.

Vegangelica
I don't know if i can describe her any better than Seltzer did. Completely crazy at times. I think what i like best about her is that i could be really honest here and she would admire that, even if my honesty was in the form of a negative opinion of her. It isn't though. I don't always agree with her but she always seems open to the opinions of others while sticking to what she believes in. That can't be a bad thing. Also it is insane how polite she is. When you can't help but say nice things about someone, even when referring to any of the little things about them you haven't always agreed with then you really just have to acknowledge that they genuinely are just a lovely person through and through.

James
Sometimes i'm not exactly sure whether i would say that it seems he cares *too* much about what people make of his music taste or if its just simply enthusiasm. Either way he has a great knowledge of music for someone of his age, is a pleasure to talk to and kind of like UB, i think he lacks in confidence which is a shame. I hope he gets more confident with age.

Storymilo
Not a member i know too well but also one of our great younger members. Seems very genuine and it's always good to see him around the boards.

TumorAttitude
She is still very much a mystery to me. One of our more unique members and often seems completely crazy. Not in a bad way mind you, you just need to get used to her style of posting. I still don't completely understand her but i think i like that about her. A very interesting person.

Stu
Used to be one of my favourite members. He was a member here long before me but whenever i have seen older posts of his from when he first joined, its incredible to see how much he matured here. He should post more. I always take notice whenever he does.

Zarko 08-06-2010 06:33 AM

Janszoon - Good bloke, willing to give anything a go, but thought I was an oldie before he discovered I only turned 20 last year (21 in a month). Dunno whether thats a good thing or a bad thing.

Bulldog - One person who is probably too willing to give up his time to a post with any considerable depth to it. Also the most consistent replier to my journal so he gets a few brownie points there. I like to consider him as the bloke who enjoys decent Dad Rock (Not to be an arsehole or anything).

4ZZZ - The bloke who introduced me to the site, so yeah...

JJJ - Always tried turning this place into something bigger with more ambition which is never a bad thing (Considering the ratio of Lounge posts to music posts)

LoathsomePete/FreebaseDali - Not the most discussion with these two, but both always willing to chuck their own into the pit and normally come up with something interesting.

Jackhammer - Probably the most receptive poster when I first joined, and although doesn't really post as much (AFAIK) is still willing to try anything out.

Molecules - Uematsu fan - Enough said.

Tore - Mr Organisation. Can't understand why he has ever bothered but it does make the place better. Always has an informed opinion at least.

Fruitonica - Fellow Aussies and enjoys good tunage.

Schizo - Another one who will try out enough different styles to make it worth posting.

Satchmo - Best name on the site by my reckoning.

N9D - Again, not the most adaptable tastes in music, but always has worth in her posts, and she loves Khmer

Not someone i know much about as he doesnt seem to be the type to share too much about who he is here, which is fine. But he does share his music taste and the passion he has for it and that means i will always read whatever he has to say. He was one of our better newbies when he first joined and now he has to be considered one of our better members period.

Wow, thanks, man. I'm glad to be a part of the forum. I have to be able to talk about music somewhere! It makes me feel great when people take my recommendations. As boo boo mentioned, I do like taking other's recs. Most people here have a fairly developed taste in music so it is the perfect place to try to break into new genres and I'm glad I can contribute.

As for the first part...that is really interesting to me. I feel fairly open when I'm posting or in the tbox (though I'm not there too often). In the real world, I am definitely a guarded person. I like to feel my way around a situation before I start opening up to things...maybe that translates into my online personality as well. Weird.

I like you Seltzer, always have. You're not one that posts all the time, but when you're here you normally have intelligent/relevant/interesting things to say, plus you like Bowie/Clash/The Smiths/The Beatles - so despite all your shortcomings, you do have some good taste amongst the shit. ;)

Yeah, you do try and take the piss a fair bit. :p: But I like it in all honesty, I try and be how I am in the real world. Though I do feel in the real world I say what I want to say without being TOO blunt, on here I can come across as a bit of a tool sometimes. Like, I don't seem like I regard other's feelings but that isn't the case. You on the other hand always seem really friendly and if I had to choose one person to watch the football with, I'd probably choose you. Or right-track, for obvious reasons.

And lastly...

I like booboo despite 1) He doesn't like me. :( 2) He can be a proggy feminist tool sometimes, and that can get a little annoying.

Wow! To be honest I wasn't expecting that. About the sex thing, I'm just a very horny girl, it oozes from my pores just like some men I know. The exception is it's often frowned upon for females to speak in such a manner.

Thank you for your comments. :)

I must check out your journal.

I'm going to do some people I don't think I've done yet.

Streetwaves - Seems like a cool guy, has excellent taste in music. I'd like to see him post much more here.

Paloma - Massive attention whore, Always thought she was 13/14 years old by the way she acts. So reading somewhere that she's 20 surprised the hell out of me. I don't dislike her, she just has one of those personalities I don't really get on with.

GuitarBizarre - An arrogant fucker who thinks he knows it all.......... I think he's great. It's even better when he's talking about things other than guitars.

Violent & Funky - Has the worst taste in music on the forum. That's not me criticising his tastes, it's just that he seems to love everything I hate. Even some bands we do share in common he seems to love the albums I hate & vice versa.
It's actually quite comical really. I don't bear him any ill feeling.

NumberNineDream - Don't dislike her but she seems a bit too 'airy fairy, head in the clouds' for my tastes. Has some interesting things to say but usually wastes them in the shoutbox.

boardsofcanada - Has just arrived here & made a good impression already despite listening to the most boring genre of music ever created. Was shocked at just how young this person was when I found out. Carries herself off very very well.

trace87 - Like his posts, seems to have a good sense of humour. It's just a shame I find something a bit forgettable about him. Needs to express a bit more personality I think.

stone birds - Never read anything by him where I didn't think afterwards 'That guy must be a bit of a twat'

Unknown Soldier / Almauro - I like them & wished they posted more. They know their stuff when it comes to obscure 60s / 70s rock bands which is something sorely lacking in this forum. It's nice to have some classic rock fans that don't just bang on & on about Led Zeppelin all the time.

VocalsBass - Did you by any chance take a lot of drugs in the 70s?
Just askin'

Scottsy - Although I dislike a lot of the music he talks about he comes across as a really genuine nice guy. I'd love to see him push himself musically & see his thoughts on more challenging stuff.
Assuming he wants to listen to that of course.

TheCunningStunt - Don't get me wrong I like the guy, but it was beginning to become overkill with his posts. It was almost like he made it his mission to reply to every post ever posted on the forum. I would just prey to enter into a thread & not see his name in it .. JUST ONCE.
If anyone needed to learn the old adage 'Less is More' it was him. seems to have toned things down as of late......
Thank God

James - Really nice guy but other than a couple of 80s indie bands I have no idea who he likes.
GET OUT OF THE SHOUTBOX & POST THINGS MAN.

Anteater - Makes prog interesting and accessible and does it in a friendly & engaging way.
Boo Boo read his journal & take notes.

Tuna - Seems like he can't decide if he wants to be a serious poster or a troll
. I wish he'd make his mind up once & for all.

Sljslj - A youngish metalhead who doesn't act like a twat & who is very easy going & respectful.
Maybe the first in the forums history. deserves a lot of credit for that.

GravitySlips - I can't remember if I did him or not but he's got great taste and I like it when he posts on the off chance he mentions something I've not come across before.

Khfreek - I like this guy, is it just me or does he not come here as much as he used to?

Burning Down - ElephantSack - The Bullet - Sidewinder - +81 - Zarko - RVCA - Antonio - Gavin B - CanwllCorfe - Loveissucide - Duga - Don't really know any of them that well but they make this place the kind of forum that I keep coming back to

I'm usually mistaken for a suicidal Emo in real life cause I never smile, and never seem to like anything. The net is a good change, so if I want to bitch about that too, I don't think I'll have any better place to go.

As for the shouty, you're definitely right. I haven't posted in the music thread for months now. I just don't feel I have anything to add to what's already being said by other members. Was planning to get back in the scene yesterday... But I'm kind of the typical procrastinator, so we'll see.
