No they aren't. What are you even basing this on except your own personal experiences with dance music?

Vocals are just as important in dance music as in any other genre.

sorry expletive, but i agree with this statement. in edm the most important element is the beat, followed by the bassline. hooks, leads, and/or vocals vie for third place.

and honestly, ethan, you don't belong in this thread, or forum. you don't know much about edm at all, stick in the "indie" thread

this hercules album is mediocre at best, i'll be listening to Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Then why use a name vocalist at all if the vocals are so unimportant?

To get crossover appeal , to get people who wouldn't normally listen to this kind of thing to listen to it. So now you have people buying the record because they either like the band and are into edm , and you have a new audience who are curious to see what the singer is up to working with this group. You think I ever really bothered with Mouse On Mars until they worked with Mark E Smith?
It worked 10/15 years ago with The Chemical Brothers & UNKLE . they had huge crossover appeal due to using people like Noel Gallagher , Thom Yorke , Ian Brown & Tim Burgess , so to suggest people ONLY listen to it for the beats is a bit short sighted.

Yeah I already admitted to not knowing much/never having bothered with this genre I didn't even really know what it was other than "electronica." I also admitted the only reason I had much interest in this album was because Antony is one of my favorite vocalists ever. But good job telling people where they can and can't post anyway and pointing out the already stated.

"electronica" does not exist. please stop using the term

Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music | New Home on Techno.org

I didn't say that the beat wasn't important, just that the vocals aren't always secondary. They're just as important as anything else in a song. The beat is certainly necessary in order to dance, but I can think of plenty more great songs with very boring or average beats, that are basically only good because of their vocals, hooks, or leads. The beat is important, but not all good songs have good ones.

Also, speaking of mediocre, DIOYY aren't anything special themselves.

And jackhammer was the one who called it Electronica throughout the entire thread. Also, Ishkur's isn't really that great a guide. It's fun to read if you already know a lot about the genres he's talking about, but half the guide is him making fun of EDM.

See I'd heard you say it wasn't a genre before hence why I put it in quotes because I wasn't sure. I don't see how I'm making a full of myself, I'm not pretending I know anything about this kind of music.

Although guest vocal spots on Dance albums does bring in new fans, I still think that vocals are secondary for me. Certainly not unimportant (Massive Attack's discography has some amazing vocal work) but I am looking for the music before any particular vocals and sometimes bland dance songs are not neccessarily enhanced by a particular vocalist.

And sometimes they are. And sometimes, good dance music goes great with a great vocalist, and sometimes bad vocals ruin a perfectly good dance track. All of these things you can find on this album. ;)

I will get round to hearing it sometime too lol
