Drum & Bass thread

hey guys

tell us your favourite D&B artist/DJ/CD/album

Let's get the discussion going

Freebase Dali 03-17-2009 07:19 PM

Yay!

Noisia (obviously)
Vicious Circle
Spor
Desimal
Audio
Cause 4 Concern

Etc...
You get my drift.

Molecules 03-17-2009 08:44 PM

hmm... would be hard pressed to point out individual artists but I have not heard much D 'n B post-jungle that gets me going, it's all gotten a bit artificial... Unless you can post some videos to convince me otherwise :D

I used to have the classic Jungle Massiv comp mixed by DJ Hype but lent it out and never saw it again :( so any help with this stuff would be greatly appreciated
LTJ Bukem was the shizz too, alot more cerebral and ambient though.

Oh and if anyone even tries to say Pendulum in this thread, gtfo :p:

Roygbiv 03-17-2009 10:00 PM

All the drum and bass i've heard is too derivative. Gimme moar!

Demonoid 03-17-2009 10:29 PM

Noisia are pretty sick. Everything, from the production to the beats/bass are right about them. Some of it has this 'trance/house' sort of effect without sounding commercial, and some of it is just strait up badass D n B.

YouTube - Noisia - Stigma
YouTube - Noisia - Gutterpump

Spor always had some stuff worth checking out too. He does this 'dark' funky sound pretty well.

YouTube - Spor-The Resistance

Try these too anyways -

London Electricity
Teebee
High Contrast
Adam F
Dillinja

And what are these 'compilations' some of you keep talking about?! I'd love to hear them.

Freebase Dali 03-17-2009 11:22 PM

I can't say enough about Calyx & Teebee. They make some epic D&B.
Dillinja, he was up there with the cats who got me listening to D&B, along with Skynet and, at the time, Bad Company who, because of copyright sh!t had to change to )EIB(.

I don't like High Contrast much, but I always respect the skill.

Adam F is a given. LE I haven't gotten into much.

I'd suggest looking into Calyx & Teebee for some thick D&B. They take care of your melodic side and your dark side and twist it into something unrecognizable. I love them for that.

jackhammer 04-13-2009 03:37 PM

Veridical should put his DnB mix he sent me up in this thread- it's excellent. A great label is Hospital Records who specialise in DnB and some of my faves like London Elektricity and High Contrast are on there.

Definatly! I'd love to check that out too.

Lotta good names thrown out here. I'll add Dieselboy just cause..you know.. :)
Also, think I mentioned this in another thread, but I'm hella pumped for they new Lynx album called Raw Power. Comes out in June I think...can't wait.

ManFromTheFuture 04-14-2009 03:29 PM

Hospital Records are from my manor and they do knock out some great stuff like Cyantific, London Elektricity, Landslide and their star man High Contrast all worth checking out.

Klute makes great dark Techno D&B, recommended

Alaska (aka Paradox) makes great old style D&B Artic Foundations is a great album same with Breakage.

My personal Favorite is Calibre any album by this Irish guy just hits the spot with me. He is also on an album under the guise of Mistical called The Eleventh Hour which is superb.

And a honourable mention to the controversial Pendulum you either love them or hate 'em I think they are great.

Dieselboy 04-14-2009 05:02 PM

Yeah Pendulum is still cool in my book. Don't care if they are "real" dnb or not, whatever, they rock.

Agree about Calibre too, guys amazing :)

I recommend Concord Dawn:

YouTube - concord dawn morning light

I have a lot of their music if you need hook ups. They are well worth it! :)

simonelli 04-15-2009 05:16 PM

I wasn't a DnB fan until a friend of mine played me "Slam" by Pendulum a couple years ago. Blew my mind.

Hmm, Concord Dawn has gotten a bit meh lately. I haven't heard anything good from 'em since Morning Light and Tonite, which was good because the Tonite version I liked was a Pendulum mix when before Pendulum got Meh.

Don't get me on about Pendulum though. I think their new sound is garbage. All their crap sounds like songs that would be in a Sonic The Hedgehog game.

Wow, you sure are missing better stuff than "Slam"...

jackhammer 04-15-2009 07:08 PM

LTJ Bukem is still the schizz and he created that classic 'Kick-Drum' Bass sound that blows my mind.

BTW Lee, The file is uploading now. At about 80 percent done.
And BTW part two, I took out a song and put another in it's place. The Unicorn one. Replaced it with Euphoria - Thought Control.

Freebase Dali 04-15-2009 07:56 PM

Enjoy

Molecules 04-16-2009 04:40 AM

not sure what neurofunk is but i'm determined to find out, big up

Piss Me Off 04-16-2009 07:38 AM

Yoink!

Here's something that's caught my attention lately, proving that broken printers can have their uses.

laviathin 04-22-2009 11:27 AM

looks like the vid off of sample swap

klute is smooth melody with smashing beats one of my faves if I want to feel chill but still have that pounding groove

Freebase Dali 04-28-2009 12:27 AM

Oh for fucks sake, anyone besides Jackhammer even attempt to download the tunes up top?

ManFromTheFuture 05-02-2009 01:38 PM

I did and thanks not my cuppa I will admit but its the thought that counts.

What D&B artists you like?

ManFromTheFuture 05-03-2009 05:35 AM

Post #9 on this thread is a selection of what I like Veridical.

Ahh.. My bad for not checking.
Good stuff. I need to diversify my D&B tastes. Most of what I have is all techy.

Piss Me Off 05-04-2009 04:38 PM

I fell asleep halfway through your comp Veridical (it was 4am :s) though that's surprising due to how dark it was. Very good stuff of what i heard, will get another play tonight.

Sweet. :)

I can't say that I like ALL DnB, in fact I dislike the majority of it(which is for me true of any type music actually), but I still consider it to be my favorite genre at the moment due to the rush I get from a few tracks.

The first DnB track I heard was actually Morning Light by Concord Dawn, I was somewhat disappointed when I realized that not all DnB is so pleasing (to me anyhow). Despite not being able to enjoy the majority of it, I'm still an avid listener because every so often (and with increasing frequency now) I'll find a track that evokes strong emotions, or that I simply find very pleasant to listen to.

Anyhow, hopefully its not too presumptious of me, but I thought I'd share a brief list of my favorite DnB songs with the goal of either getting some feedback or simply sharing some favorite songs with the hopes that someone will end up liking one or more of them as much or more than I do.

8 Bit Bitch (Spor Remix) - Evol Intent
Age of Empires - Photek
Amparo (Sanctuary) -Blue Nine.a
Arrakis - Black Sun Empire
Breach - Black Sun Empire
Broken Eyes (AsKa Remix) - Concord Dawn
Comalies - Lethal Gene Project
Dark Rain - Current Value
Eastern Jam - Chase and Status
Edge of Dreams - Current Value
Exodus -Noisia feat KRS-ONE and Mayhem
Hell - Gein
Hesitate (Spor & Toxin Remix) - Fallout
Middle of the Night - Evol Intent
Pack of Wolves (Pendulum Remix) - Nightbreed
Papua New Guinea (TitanZERO Remix) - Future Sound of London
Pieces - Chase and Status feat Plan B
Publike - Colossal
The Return of Bowser (Dark Castle Edit) - Prodigal Son
Running - Chase and Status
Stompbox (Spor Remix) - The Qemists
Sun King - State of Mind
Violation - SPL & T.Z.A.

Also, I'd like to thank Veridical Fiction for uploading that pack of songs, even though I had heard some of them before, it was still rather nice.

You're welcome man. Eventually I'm going to do an actual DJ mix and I'll definitely throw some obscure tracks in for good measure.

Your list rocks. Lot of good items. Good artists.

Sooner rather than later I'd hope, never put off til tomorrow what you can accomplish today. Looking forward to it.

Thanks. Most what I find comes from internet radio or browsing youtube, and very occasionally suggestions from friends.
Hopefully this thread will keep going and I can exchange views with other people who enjoy this genre, and broaden my music library a little bit (shame there isn't a subforum for each sub category of electronica).
