I'm gonna listen to it tonight, while I'm running :)
I sure am curious :) |
Damn straight.
|
The first two albums were amazing. Slowly but surely, like most dance acts, they went into the gutter.
|
Hmmm, indeed, a good analogy...
|
I was rather surprised by the generally unfavourable press for the new album, "Invaders Must Die". While it isn't perfect, and although I imagine I'll only listen to it when the mood takes me, I don't find it nearly as tired or pathetic as many popular reviewers did. Interestingly, much of the criticism seemed to be directed towards the fact that the band are too old to still be making this sort of music. Which is to say I detected that many of the reviewers were vaguely scandalised by the notion that "The Prodigy" are still producing aggressive, heavy bass-inflected dance tracks, despite the fact that they are in their forties. It seems to me that these reviewers are slightly embarrassed by the fact that THEY have matured gracefully into their late thirties and early forties, and that their tastes have changed towards music that is subtler and more complex than that produced by the Prodigy, but that they USED to listen to this in their "youth". Ha ha.

I saw them live at the Big Day Out this year and I thought they were pretty good performance-wise.
|
How was the good ol' Big Day Out This year? I miss that whole summer vibe in Australia... having been born there and living there for some 30 years... and yes to coin a corny phrase, I still call it home...

Prodigy are good, maybe great, not genius though.
|
The first album got me into electronic music, along with early Orbital, The Orb and Aphex Twin. Loved the second album, too. Fat of The Land is cool, but I was listening to different things by then. Not knocking it, just doesn't mean as much to me as the first two.
I know, I know Experience is dated rave, but it sounded wicked back then (and still does, especially when compared to it's peers). |
Great word choice. Their early career: genius; their last album: pathetic.
|
I really only liked Fat of the Land, the rest I can take or leave. But that was a good album.

One album wonders?

|
its to confusing and hardcore. i dont think they deserve to be called genius
|
Cant say it's pathetic, Diesel Power is amazing and will never get old. The song's name reflects the beat to the micrometer.

They were superb in their earlier years e.g breathe, smack my bitch up.. but their new stuff e.g omen, warriors dance has gone very commerical and many people aren't that fussed on the new album, however it's your choice !
|
I absolutely love their new album, although my favorite was Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. Spitfire is their best song imo. But off the new album I favor the old schooly vocal sound of Warrior's Dance. I have a special place in my heart for old school dance :)
|
It's great
so man like spring-brother in China 春哥纯爷们,真汉子! |
What did everyone think of The Prodigy at Isle of Wight last night>
Hey,
Just wondering people's opinions on their performance last night, I thought it was rather good.. tP |
This song is brilliant. I especially like their use of the loop from Max Romeo's reggae classic Iron Shirt. It's a lot more skillful anything ever produced by Fat Boy Slim or Paul Oakenfold.
|
there idea's are good. but heres whats wierd.
whoever writes the music pretends like he's totally insane. sane people should not pretend there insane. i they were really off thier rockers then it would be awsome. until then, they suck. and thier lyrics are fail. they are random yes, and they can be fun, but they arent interesting at all. i like the wooble bass in that last vid posted tho. pretty interesting. |
I really dig Omen and Thunder off of their new album.
|
Take Me to the Hospital, Warriors Dance and Run With the Wolves are my favourites from the newest album. Love alot of their old stuff too, wouldn't say they're genius though!

|
I think I have just come to the conclusion they just aren't my thing, no matter what they do I am more than likely going to dislike their music....I guess its a taste thinq

Invaders Must Die Breath Come on man, how can you not like that? |
The same way I don't like alot of things, it just doesn't do anything for me.. no connection...
|
i've always hated The Prodidgy, so i'm going with Pathetic on this one guys. sorry.
i actually tried to get into them, i just couldn't do it. |
Early stuff was alright when i off my head but now i think their ****e. The last thing was complete ****e.
All the bods have been buying it though in their droves. |
I think people confuse Prodigy with being a highly original band and hate on them accordingly. It's music to jump around to that sticks to a template because it works. Nothing wrong with that. Many bands have been doing it for years. Prodigy are a big, brash band that you jump around to or work out too. They have never puported to be anything else. Live they blow the ass off 80% of bands out there.
|
a dont go out my way to listen to them, but if i have a few of there songs in itunes :D
good artists, not genius though :) |
Yeah I listen to them from time to time but I haven't listened to any one of their albums from beginning to end. I only pick out certain tracks.
I wouldn't say they were genius but they are decent. |
I am sure they are great to jump around like an idiot to, but I guess I'd look kinda daft in my living room with my headphones, which where / hpw I do most of my music listening...
|
Started off well and then got worse and worse. The first and second album era was pretty good, then the third album was okay, the fourth was pretty bad, and now they've come back with an album full of tiresome pish.
I wasn't expecting much from it, but it managed to be more awful than I could have imagined. How can Liam Howlett go from the 12" mix of One Love to something like Omen or Warrior's Dance? |
I think their one of the best dance bands to actually grace our ears (apart from the firestarter) I also think they kick butt out of the club dance scene which is too girly and commercial these days. Bring back the old skool and have a good time again
|
I love them. New album is great.
|
Can't stand them. They strike me as Dance music's equivalent of Oasis.
