I'm a big fan, wouldn't call them genius but they always get a good reception when they're played in the clubs (the clubs i go to anyway lol) and i've heard they put on an incredible live show.

scottsy 08-24-2009 07:54 AM

So I think we're reaching a conclusion here..... they're a good live act, make music that is alright and a bit polarizing at times... but there doesn't seem to be a strong concensus that they are genius... I think, and after reading people's thoughts on this board, "musical genius' is far too generous a term for the Prodigy...

I liked the "Oasis of Electronica" tag... a couple of great, groundbreaking albums, then they declined into sorta ok record making while keeping a strong following as a live act, putting on some pretty good shows... sounds..... a whole lot like Oasis...

Looking forward to this if the mix is good enough. Exceptional live band so here's hoping that it captures them at their best.

Music For The Jilted Generation is a great album, but their change of sound really threw me off. I liked their grittier stuff way better.

qianqian 05-13-2011 11:37 PM

Like them.

I'm not a fan. Quite alot of 90s electronica I actually find quite cold and not as inventive and engaging as some say.

GERD 05-24-2011 06:19 PM

I would say neither. They are very good though, my favourite is fat of the land.

Savory 05-24-2011 06:58 PM

Their first 3 records are the only ones worth getting.

I got into them around the time that fat of the land came out and I liked the next album after that Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned

but I haven't checked out their first two albums to see how much they differ to their two more popular releases.

GERD 05-25-2011 05:37 AM

The earlier ones are good too. I never got that always outnumbered.. one though.

Scarlett O'Hara 05-25-2011 05:39 AM

Always Out Numbered, Never Out Gunned is the best album of theirs IMO.

GERD 05-27-2011 07:35 AM

I'll have to check it out sometime.:band:

Most critics and even the band themselves have distanced themselves from this album. I really don't know why other than the fact that is virtually a Liam Howlett solo album. There is some fantastic stuff on there and it is one of the few albums that genuinely scream 'play me as loud as damn possible'.

Tell me about it! I always pump Hotride and Spitfire really loud! Totally banging classics if you ask me. :)

This really does it for me from that album. The bassline is quite simply bed rumbling.

This is just sublime.

This is the reason I respect your musical taste so much, you don't go by what critics say is 'good' music and develop your own opinions. :)

Smack My Bitch Up is ok, but I couldn't really get into it. It sounds...eh. I just don't see why people like it so much.

Skylined is still my favorite, Poison's pretty great too.
But Skylined...daaamn. So good. :tramp:

Standbyking 06-09-2011 08:09 AM

Well in any case they made it. I mean here we are talkin about em. lol

Lord Dweedle 06-14-2011 07:34 PM

actually listening to that minefield song other day, catchy, funky sh!t is good to

wickedlk 10-12-2011 03:23 AM

Liam Howlett's on form with this remix!

jdoost123 10-18-2011 06:35 PM

What Prodigy are awesome, they have some very creative sounds. Although they are a bit crazy I reckon their awesome :)

jackhammer 10-18-2011 06:41 PM

I consider myself lucky enough to see the bands I have wanted to see live but The Prodigy are a big gap in there :(

I have heard nothing but positive reviews from their live shows. They give most Metal bands a run for their money regarding excitement and aptitude.

Genius, and brilliant live. They really get the crowd going (and they know how to prepare a setlist).

I think their best album was Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned, but they've been a pretty consistent group throughout their career.

thedarkness 01-13-2012 03:46 PM

They are great! I think their first two albums, Experience and Jilted Generation, are their best-I would go for Music For The Jilted Generation as the number one album to get. I wasnt keen on Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned, its could be their weakest effort, but its not a bad album. I dont think its as good as Invaders Must Die. Fat Of The Land was overplayed by tv and radio after release-heard too many time, so its not a favourite, but if you werent around, you might well like it.. I dont think theyve ever made a bad album, but then theyve only ever had 5 main releases in 19 years, so they have plenty time to prepare to get it right ;)

Jake_Piero 01-14-2012 06:59 AM

genius at thier peek.

Tristesse 01-14-2012 08:03 AM

The people are creepy. But their music is good, some great catchy tunes

Atrocious 01-16-2012 03:15 PM

Got their whole discography. A homie hooked me up with a copy of Fat Of The Land back when, got the addiction and from there started checking out EDM

dzi 01-24-2012 11:36 AM

Genious, absolutely.

muzikaljurnee 02-03-2012 12:59 AM

Genius foh soh

Northerner_V1 04-01-2012 04:12 PM

Yep - Liam Howlett is unbelievably talented. Jilted Generation is their peak for me, but there was (is) plenty before and after to like.

pulpcult 04-05-2012 02:01 PM

Well they've definitely been massively influential! It's not my taste anymore, but I still think they're great

Guybrush 04-26-2012 05:02 AM

Overall, I like The Prodigy. They were very cool in the 90s. Today looking back, I still like Liam Howlett who basically made the music. Keith and Maxim I could easily do without, although I guess there wouldn't be much going on at concerts without them.

InsaneCoconut 04-29-2012 09:03 AM

Some of their stuff is ok.
