Massive Attack

didnt quite know whether to place this in the electronic forum, hip hop forum or this one so i went with the alternative. one of the most important bands of the last decade for me. got 3 of their albums and mezzanine is by far my favourite- a classic. songs like teardrop, angel, inertia creeps and rising son are just class. up there with radiohead to me. so, your opinions on massive attack?!

dj_soda_pop 04-02-2005 06:27 AM

They rule - have all the albums!!!! mint

cant get enough - they are from Bristol and i have met them enjoyied a doobie or 2 with them they are the nicest peeps u could meet. shame they had o split due to inconsolrable differences.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-02-2005 08:03 AM

Probably THE best band of the last 15 years.

3D should call it a day though , 100th Window was an embarresment

dj_soda_pop 04-02-2005 09:43 AM

true - wasnt the best - however daddy g's hip hop compilation was kinda funky - i really enjoyed it. added to collection!

Sneer 04-02-2005 11:14 AM

i thought blue lines was a bit overrated too. protection is up there with mezzanine.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-02-2005 11:56 AM

I guess it`s easy to say Blue Lines is overrated , but you have to understand at the time it was totally new & different to what anybody else was doing.
I would say that is one of the reasons it`s rated so highly.

Sneer 04-03-2005 02:47 PM

point well made, but compared to their other material, i just dont think it reaches that level- bar unfinished symphony of course.

Sneer 04-10-2005 10:27 AM

man next door is just perfection.

Laces Out Dan! 08-15-2006 10:29 PM

Risington is just a kick ass song, in fact everything off the album kicks ass

I'm downloading BLue Lines Now. I doubt it's as good though:tramp:

Massive Attack-The dog's bollocks.

What no thread?

The mighty MASSIVE ATTACK who can appeal to everyone from dance to dub lovers, indie lovers to metal heads alike. With every album they have always tried to explore new territory. Their debut fused hip hop and dance. Their second PROTECTION, brought dub into the mix and MEZZANINE was dark and gothic. 100th Window was a slight dissapointment, but EVERYWHEN was a standout track.

Having worked with a great array of producers and artists, Massive Attack are one of the finest British bands of the last twenty years.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-07-2007 02:59 PM

Mezzanine is heavier than any metal album I have ever heard.

That's all :D

joyboyo53 08-07-2007 03:44 PM

i dig me some massive attack saw them at acl a couple years back. i honestly wish i had some more cd's. can anyone upload something other than mezz?

GravitySlips 08-09-2007 04:04 AM

Blue Lines is one of my favourite albums. Mezzanine is good too.

YEAH BAND RULES!

jackhammer 09-06-2007 04:12 PM

This thread should be moved to GENERAL MUSIC. I cannot believe so few people have replied. Massive Attack are so well regarded by fans and critics alike.

TroubleBunch 09-20-2007 07:57 PM

Far and away, "Mezzanine" is my favourite album. But toss just about any of their other albums in, and I'll still be as happy as a clam. Even the Unleased/Danny the Dog soundtrack was great!

And because of Tricky's inclusion, I will always hold a special place for those first couple of albums.

=ladyface= 10-07-2007 04:09 PM

Ah, Massive Attack. My parents introduced me to them on long car journeys when I was younger.

Protection's definitely my favourite album of theirs. The standard's high the whole way though. I never have to skip a track.

jackhammer 03-21-2008 03:43 PM

My son who has doggedly stuck to listening commercial (c)rap had an ephiphany yesterday. I managed to get him to listen to Mezzanine and it blew him away. He has been playing it all day along with some Lamb, Tricky and Portishead. Result!

Laces Out Dan! 03-21-2008 03:50 PM

Have you shown his TFOT yet ;)

jackhammer 03-21-2008 04:41 PM

All in good time my friend!

Neil Loots 03-25-2009 04:51 PM

Massive Attack

I don't know if this is the right forum for a question relating to this band. Perhaps this thread would find itself at home in the Hip-hop/Rap forum?

Anyway, does anyone know when the ever elusive and super secret new album will finally be released? I know that keeping fans in suspense is probably somewhat of a marketing ploy, but this has been going on since 2007! Enough! (The longer they wait, the higher expectations will be, and the bigger the disappointment if it turns out to be a less than perfect and revolutionary work, in the vein of Blue Lines or Mezzanine.)

Now that I am here I can explain how brilliant I think they are. Unleashed is incredible, it takes me to another world. They're from another planet I'm sure! But the main fave of mine is Mezzanine.
