Great recommendations Fluffy!
Here are some wee gems that I found. Here is a cool set of ambient dubstep which I really enjoyed. It's 1.5 hours, great to get high to. Now for some artists: Distance This dude is totally banging. The first track I listed made me damp. If you like your grindy, dark dubstep - you've come to the right place. heya vanilla. i've got a question or two.
first of all, i know f*ck all about dubstep. when the term hit the town i grew up in, the people that knew of my electronic music exploits (which i just do for fun... kind of like one might paint pictures) told me i make dubstep. i didn't really think too much of it... i just mess around with sounds and it's fun. but recently i made a track using techniques i grabbed from a couple tutorials on how to make dubstep sounds. it's by no means a work of mastery but i'm rather fond of it. anyway, what little dubstep that i've heard tells me that the definition of it is foggy at best. there seems to be a great many attributes to it, but no set of strict criteria that defines what a dubstep song should abide by. do correct me if i'm wrong, of course. first question: if you wouldn't mind, my little ditty is 2:44, and if you'd listen to it (all the way through... cuz it changes) and tell me if it's dubstep that would be fantastic. https://soundcloud.com/elementecture...t-now-tester-2 my second question revolves around the above-mentioned loose criteria. i see dubstep as infinitely open as far as the limits of creativity. 3 things i latch on to in dubstep are deep grooves, whacky, chaotic, aggressive and weird lines/beats, and a departure from regular song structure. so, do you have any recommendations that might fit that bill? the reason i'm asking is basically that i don't have the time to sift through millions of songs to find some that i like. thanks lady! |

thats my take on it. you have to listen to the drums mostly. dubstep usually fringes on trance elements and drum and bass elements a lot of times. although some producers nowadays are also including break into it (see Bassnectar). |

Well, I haven't done enough posts to do external links yet, but the list of artists I used in the recommendations thread that brought me here hasn't seemed to have been mentioned in this thread--outside of Knife Party--so I'd like to call your guys' attention to the following.
Cubism I wasn't able to find any material related to his backstory or who he really is, but a quick listen to Overflowing or The Legacy will give you an idea of what he's about. S'some good stuff. Staffy & Maverick Dear lord, most of their stuff is terrible, but Modern Warfare and Bruvva are good. Downlink I'm honestly blown away that no one has mentioned them yet in this thread. Some of their songs take a bit to build up an have less of a drive than other dubstep, but their sound is good nonetheless. Chrispy Funny that I was referred to them by a YouTube commenter of all things, but Chrispy is good. I don't really need to suggest any tracks by them. They're all good. Rusko A classic dubstep artist who actually has a degree in music. Not all of his stuff is dubstep, but Jahova and Cockney Thug are some good dubstep songs by him, though his stuff tends to be on the mellower side. Bar 9 Another artist who's got some great dubstep tracks, though not all of his stuff is dubstep. I would suggest giving Strung Out and Piano Tune a listen. Datsik Have they been mentioned? If they haven't, I'm just putting them out there. Substep Infrabass Wow! I don't know how I forgot to mention them, but they have a very dark, atmospheric sound and their "warble bass" effects are incredibly unique, much in the way that Cubism's are. Anyway, give 666 or The Sathiest a listen. Against the Machines - Datsik and Downlink; Just listen to it. That's all. Happy Thursday. |
