Seven Lions. Greatest producer at the moment?

Who would be your guys' picks?

Cool thread thanks

Does anyone like Magnetic Man or know anything about them? Wiki says they are a "dubstep trio," but their songs don't sound like any of these recommendations, which leads me to believe they are either a) sh*t or b) not really dubstep.

Anyway, I like them (and a lot of other so-called sh*t), so if anyone knows anything similar, I'd love to get in on it.

Used to listen to Dubstep a lot when I was younger, nice thread. Mainly stuff like Benga, Skream, Mala... it was mostly the more tribal, mellowed out stuff. I've never really liked the new, bassy stuff, apart from some exceptions.

What do you mean by 'not really Dubstep'?

From what I've heard from them, which is admittedly not much as I don't follow Dubstep anymore, they are like the Backstreet Boys of Dubstep. I've heard the collabs with P-Money but didn't like them. I can recommend a bunch of stuff similar to those vocals if you liked them but if you want instrumentals in the same vein then I don't know of much, sorry.

If anyone is bothered (probably not :o:) and you're a fan of Dubstep, it might be worth delving into instrumental Grime as well because both Dubstep and Grime developed from Garage at the same time, in the same place and overlap each other and in the early days (pre-2006) were very, very similar. I have very good knowledge of instrumental Grime from 2002ish up until last year. I will post the stuff that I think people would like based on what has been posted in the thread as the older stuff might be a bit too 'pots and pans' if you get me. I see Vanilla has already posted some Plastician :). Are you guys familiar with Terror Danjah? I think Dubstep fans would definitely like Rude Kid's stuff if you haven't heard of him already:

Rude Kid - Electric Instrumental (OFFICIAL) - YouTube

Rude Kid - Screwdriver INSTANT DROP - YouTube

Rude Kid - Spring (Instrumental) - YouTube

Rude Kid - Rain Drops - YouTube

The legend that is Maniac, he is in prison now but while he was around he was (and still is) widely regarded as the best Grime producer, his style is very unique:

Maniac - Captain Instrumental - YouTube

Maniac - Gunslap (New Age Grime)(*NEW*) - YouTube

Maniac - Devil vs Saltfish (High Quality) - YouTube

Maniac - Liquid Organ [Radio Clip] - YouTube

Has Sukh Knight been posted yet? I don't follow Dubstep anymore but always have time for Sukh Knight, his beats are seriously good:

Sukh Knight - Hands In Your Pockets Feat Jahcoozi - YouTube

Sukh Knight - Beneath Your Blouse - YouTube

One of the best current Grime producers (has done what I would call modern 'wobbly' Dubstep too but I prefer his fresher, skippier Garage influenced style), Preditah:

Preditah - Red Bull - YouTube

Preditah - Street Fighter [Instrumental] (Unreleased) - YouTube

I will stop spamming the thread now :o:

I though Magnetic Man could be in a different genre or sub-genre of dubstep, I don't know. I'm not that familiar with dubstep and I don't really have a good understanding of what dubstep sounds like, and the term has been thrown around a lot in recent times, especially as some dubstep sounds are popular with mainstream audiences. It is my understanding that there is a kind of "true" dubstep that is different from the poppy stuff I've heard.

So...they are really popular with teenage girls? Hahaha that's funny. My boyfriend has this group of guy friends who think they are so tough listening to Magnetic Man hahaha.

I do like the stuff with vocals, I'll take your recommendations!! And the spam is also good. Mmm...spam.

Yeah I get what you're saying, it's true that it's become popular recently so there are loads of examples of it being used on more 'commercial' songs, an example of what I used to listen to and would consider to be Dubstep would be something like:

Dubstep allstars vol. 1 mixed by Dj Hatcha - YouTube

This is very, very good ^ Instrumental mix though, so may get tedious if you're new to it. I have an old mix on disc somewhere from about 2004, got some nice stuff on so I may upload it.

:D

Sort of yeah, I would just say it's like the equivalent of Eminem being Hip-Hop, he would be by definition I guess, but nowadays there are better examples that are more unknown. But if you like it you like it, Katy on a Mission would probably be considered 'pop' but I fhucking love that (if you haven't heard it Youtube it but if you're familiar with Magnetic Man I assume you have heard it ;) ).

Here are some vocals, there's a bit of variety I hope you like them:

Roachee - SITH Lord - No Hats No Hoods Records - YouTube

Breakage feat Donaeo - Speechless (out 22nd march) - YouTube

P Money - Left the Room (Prod. Sukh Knight) - YouTube

Classic ^

Durrty Goodz - Take Back The Scene - YouTube

This whole 'Axiom' EP has very good vocals, some good concept tracks on there too ^

Breakage ft Newham Generals - Hard - YouTube

True Tiger - Slang Like This - YouTube

Good concept ^

Looks like I have a busy couple of days ahead of me...;) Thanks for everything so far! I hope sooner or later Vanilla comes in and offers her two cents, too.

:D

Vanilla we want your expertise in the thread please :(

EDIT - oh hai that rhymed, lol.

Face 01-01-2013 06:03 PM

Dubstep is all about the drop and being badass, every single time. But drum and bass has drops and......goes places.

Drum n bass> dubstep.

Pendulumn
Matrix and futurebound
Subfocus
Netsky
Spor

Cuthbert 01-01-2013 07:29 PM

Pretty much every single DnB track has the same drum pattern though. There is more variety in Dubstep.

I don't like DnB MC's either.

Dubstep only being about the drop is arguable too, the new stuff is, but Midnight Request Line, Colourful, Night, Nine Samurai... All way more chilled and err... 'undroppy' (is that even a word?)

I'm sure you understand what I am trying to say anyway.
