At last we have equality in Texas!!...although I prefer the route Iowa went, which was to allow legal marriage for people regardless of gender. From your article, here's the crucial sentence of the Texas Constitutional amendment that was approved in 2005:

"Any legal status identical to marriage," of course, is...marriage.

Ah gotta love the lack of proof reading for documents. It reminds me of a state that almost created a National Skate Park rather than State Park.

I think that's an unfair assumption unless you actually live here. Texas is such a huge and varied state that you'll get huge differences in attitude between areas.
