For British chippies I like the vinegar. If the chips/fish ratio is skewed too much towards the chips I go full heathen and add mayo to them, vinegar and all

There's a British chippy here called A Salt & Battery - and I put malt vinegar on the chips there and love it. That's the only situation in which I put anything on chips/fries besides salt. I hate mayonnaise (even good mayo) in general, and don't use ketchup on fries or on anything else. I'm a really boring, plain eater and don't use a lot of condiments in general. But I do love malt vinegar on those British chips - yum!

Don't they ask? Whenever I get (used to get) chips they'd stand there with the salt and look over - "Salt and vinegar?" Only when you nodded would they add it. After all, some people don't like one, the other or both.

If I were a mod I'd change every instance of "chippy" or "chippies" to "scrotum" or "scrotums".
