White Light/White Heat takes everything on their debut one step further, their best imo.

I take it then by saying "VU & Nico is brilliant" that you mean the album and not the actual singer? Ha.

I have to respectfully disagree as well though. Even if you don't like her voice, it should be appreciated. Like Janis Joplin, I think she had a beautiful voice that went very well with her music. But I bet hearing her speak all the time in that voice got grating after a while. Despite that being said, her voice is appreciated by the masses. Ya feel me?

I (guess that I just) don't know, I think her accent is to thick, although I realize it's a bit shallow of me to complain about the voice when the lyrics are about drugs, prostitution, violence and misery.

I don't think it was taking anything a step further, if anything it was a step backwards (Not in the quality of the music unnecessarily) to a simpler sound. It was a near-nihilistic album where as VU&Nico was Beauty\Reality contrast.

I don't like it because I think the experimental side of it overwhelms the musical side. The absence of Cale following this record makes the VU&Nico album while not the best they could have been, the best they were.

All that is most poetic in life.

TVU&Nico is without a doubt their best work... Their self-titled one was decent, and their last 2 albums were enjoyable enough, but they never really topped the masterpiece that they made originally IMO. Maybe it had something to do with Nico being with them.... I don't know, just a thought...

Prior to hooking up with Warhol and the Velvet Underground, Nico occupied the same stylistic sphere as Dusty Springfield and Petula Clarke.

What I find interesting was that her voice was a bit different. More light and poppy. On Velvet Underground & Nico (and Chelsea Girl), her voice is more sonorous and almost dirge-like.

I didn't much care for her voice in her Velvet Underground period, but I've definitely come around on it. Now it doesn't detract from the music, though it still isn't my favourite female voice.

That's a real catchy tune! Any idea what year it was made?

1965. A pre-Zeppelin Jimmy Page plays 12-string guitar on the track.

Wow, I had no idea. What's the name of this song?

Minstrel 08-24-2008 05:35 PM

I'm Not Sayin'.

That's the name of the song. And who's on first.
