Molecules- if you were female I would marry you! It's a great compilation and was a huge influence on Metallica (for better or worse).

Hezekiah Jones-Come to Our Pool Party, it's not as good as You're A-OK but it's not bad at all.

Ooooo i'm curious now. I'm still fairly sure i don't know the first thing about NWOBHM so take this as education!

Hooverphonic - Sit Down and Listen To

this is amazing. i thought i had all Hooverphnic until i stumbled upon this yesterday. it's an acoustic album featuring some of their best stuff. recorded live, but with no audience - sound is warm and clean.

the lack of synth throws the songs from their usual place among other great trip-hop sounds in to a more jazzy, downtempo place. the vocals are jaw-dropping, especially on 2Wicky.

any Hooverphonic fan must get this one! or if you want to hear some awesome and very original acoustic sounds accompanied by one of the most incredible voices in the world, then track it down. it's superb :)

jackhammer 03-09-2009 07:47 AM

I have been dying to give them a listen too!

LoathsomePete 03-09-2009 09:56 AM

I re-downloaded Atmosphere's "You Can't Believe How Much Fun We're Having" because I made a stupid last week and deleted the folders for my A-B-C, and # bands... lost like 10 gigs of music... not happy.

Best song is arguably the end song, "Little Man". I Really like it when hip hop artists do songs dedicated to friends and family, leaves me with a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

I was obsessed with that song for a long time after this album came out. Slug's self-reflection at the end is, wow, brutal. "The only woman that love you are fans and family, mom has no choice, but fans leave you randomly". Also love the line: "Can't teach much when it comes to women, I drive safe and slow but don't know nothin' bout the engine".

Lately I've been listening to "That Night" a lot, sad story behind that track :-\

Dont know what to expect at all. Friend wants me to check it out.

Alfred 03-09-2009 06:46 PM

That is some fine hardcore punk right there.

Kirby 03-09-2009 07:47 PM

After listening, I do agree.
It's been getting heavy rotation today.

Anyone know anything else I should check by them?

lucifer_sam 03-09-2009 08:12 PM

Self-titled for sure. "Banned in DC" is requisite listening for anyone who wants to delve into that side of punk.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Alfred 03-09-2009 09:04 PM

Also I Against I, shows a different side of the band, with their usual hardcore punk sound in the mix.

Alexander Tucker - Old Fog.

Stunning Freak Folk album with some of it sounding like the guy was a wandering minstrel in a previous life. Superb.

Anteater 03-10-2009 06:28 PM

That actually looks pretty interesting Jack. I think I'll go check it out!!

Anyway-

Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick

Quite outstanding, wish I had downloaded it earlier. I'm not that big a fan of long suite-like tracks, but this one deserves every bit of acclaim it's ever gotten. :D

Tangerine Dream - Underwater Sunlight

Up until now all I had of the Dream was Phaedra, but this album has convinced me to delve further into their discography. Killer guitar work and chillness abounds!

Underwater Sunlight holds so many memories for me. Musically it is essentially new age MUZAK but I would not swap this album for the world.

Do check out the Alexander tucker- it's immense.

They actually have four.

[Self-Titled, Evil Empire, The Battle of Los Angeles, and Renegades]

Renegades is a cover album, though.

Five, if you count their live album.

Yeah, but I was counting their proper original albums.

Dated, but still replete with inspired moments. Classic.

It's damn good for sure.

Stu: Man I dig me some Bambaataa. I was sad they didn't make it very far in the Hip Hop Battle.

gunnels 03-11-2009 09:00 PM

Am I the only one who thought that Evil Empire was a peice of shite?
I like their sound, but that album had way to much filler. Everyday I'll think, "alright, today I'm going to give RATM another try." But I never do.

Surell 03-11-2009 09:03 PM

I haven't listened to either one in awhile, but I don't recall anything bad about either really.
